🚨 IMPORTANT PUBLIC NOTICE – TEMPORARY BURNING RESTRICTIONS 🚨

Due to ongoing dry conditions and an increased risk of wildfires, Atkinson County officials have issued a temporary restriction on outdoor burning effective April 21, 2026.

🔥 What this means:

All open burning of yard debris (leaves, limbs, grass, and similar materials) is temporarily prohibited.
These conditions significantly increase the danger of uncontrolled fires, putting lives, property, and natural resources at risk.

👨‍🚒 Enforcement:
This restriction will be enforced by local officials, including the Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office.

⏳ Duration:
The restriction will remain in place until drought conditions improve and officials determine it is safe to lift.

⚠️ Please help us keep our community safe:

Do not burn yard debris
Use extreme caution with any outdoor flames
Report any signs of wildfire immediately

On the morning of April 1, 2026, a detective with the Pearson Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a black Chrysler for failure to maintain its lane of travel.

Upon making contact with the driver, the detective detected the odor of ma*****na emanating from the vehicle. The driver admitted to smoking ma*****na prior to operating the vehicle and advised that there may be a small amount of ma*****na residue in the vehicle.

A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 77 hydrocodone pills, packaging materials, and a baggie containing ma*****na residue.
As a result of the investigation, both the driver and passenger were charged with the following offenses:
* O.C.G.A. 16-13-30 – Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance
* O.C.G.A. 16-13-30 – Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute
* O.C.G.A. 16-13-32.2 – Possession of Drug-Related Objects
* O.C.G.A. 16-13-75 – Drugs to be Kept in Original Container
The driver was additionally charged with:
* O.C.G.A. 40-6-48 – Failure to Maintain Lane

The Pearson Police Department is excited to announce our upcoming Women’s Firearm Course!

This course is designed to help women build confidence, learn firearm safety, and gain practical knowledge in a comfortable and supportive environment.

✅ Course is FREE of charge
✅ Must bring your own firearm
✅ Bring at least 50 rounds of ammunition

Applications are available at City Hall:

Most questions are answered in the application packet, and all applicants must pass a background check prior to attending.

Spots are limited, so be sure to pick up your application soon!

We’ve had several reports of this being passed around, so let’s clear it up—this is NOT legitimate.

If you receive something claiming to be from a court about a “traffic violation” and it directs you to scan a QR code or make an immediate payment, it is a scam.

Here are a few red flags 👇

• Courts do NOT collect payments using QR codes• They do NOT send notices that pressure you with urgent threats like this• They do NOT issue fines without proper documentation and official procedures

This is simply an attempt to rush and scare you into sending money.

What you need to do:•
❌ Do NOT scan the QR code
❌ Do NOT send any payment
📞 If you have concerns, contact the court directly using a trusted phone number

Bottom line:If it’s pushing you to act fast and pay through a QR code, it’s a scam.

Help us spread the word and keep others from falling for it.
