On April 10, 2026, Commander David Huscher was relieved by Commander Arlene Crews of his duties as Commanding Officer of USS Decatur (DDG 73) during a change of command ceremony at Naval Base San Diego. Captain Scott Wilbur, Commodore of Destroyer Squadron 23, was the guest speaker.
Throughout his 18 months as Commanding Officer, CDR Huscher led the ship through the maintenance, basic, and advanced phases of the ship’s life cycle, ensuring the ship was would be ready to answer the nation’s call. “Bold and Daring” wasn’t just a slogan, it was the standard. CDR Huscher led with vision, courage, and unwavering commitment throughout his command. His leadership leaves a lasting impact on the crew and the mission as the continues to serve “In Pursuit of Peace”.
