Big impact doesn’t always require a big budget.
One of my favorite things about designing play spaces is proving that even a small, thoughtfully designed area can inspire hours of meaningful play.
This cozy play area at Hualālai features a GameTime PrimeTime play structure designed for children ages 2–5. To make it feel uniquely connected to place, we added a custom volcano climber—a nod to Hualālai, one of the island’s five volcanoes—and a canoe rocker that celebrates Hawaiʻi’s voyaging heritage.
But one of my favorite features isn’t a piece of equipment at all.
The open, soft artificial grass creates something just as valuable: room to run, do cartwheels, invent games, chase friends, build obstacle courses, and let imagination take over. Not every square foot needs to be filled with equipment. Sometimes the best play happens in the spaces between.
Great play spaces aren’t measured by how much you spend—they’re measured by the opportunities they create for children to move, imagine, explore, and grow.
✨ Every space has the potential to become something special.💛
