25 years later, we remember.
On September 11, 2001, the world watched unimaginable tragedy unfold. But in the middle of the fear, smoke, confusion and heartbreak, we also witnessed extraordinary courage.
While thousands were trying to escape danger, firefighters and other first responders were moving toward it.
343 firefighters never came home.
They were firefighters, but they were also husbands and wives. Fathers and mothers. Sons and daughters. Friends and coworkers. They had people waiting for them at home, and still, when others needed help, they went.
Twenty five years later, their sacrifice still means something.
For those of us fortunate enough to wear this uniform today, September 11 is more than a moment in history. It is a reminder of the responsibility that comes with serving others, of the courage shown by those who came before us, and of the promise that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
We remember their names.
We remember their courage.
We remember their sacrifice.
25 years later, we still remember.
