Today, we pause for something heavier than a thank you.
EMS Remembrance Day is a time to honor the providers who answered the call, cared for strangers, served their communities, and left a lasting mark on their EMS families.
In this field, we know that service does not always end when the shift is over. The compassion, sacrifice, and dedication of those who came before us continue to shape the way we show up for our patients, our partners, and our community.
Today, Wakefield EMS remembers and honors those who served with courage, carried the weight of the job, and helped build the foundation we stand on today.
To those we have lost, your service is not forgotten. Your impact remains with us every time the tones drop. đź’›

Please join us in congratulating John “Jack” Purcell, who was honored yesterday with Pennsylvania’s Star of Life Award at the State Capitol Rotunda in Harrisburg.

This statewide award recognizes EMS professionals with 25 or more years of dedicated service, and Jack is more than deserving of this special honor. His many years of commitment, compassion, and service represent exactly what EMS Recognition Day is all about.

EMS Week gives us the opportunity to celebrate the people behind the uniform, the ones who continue to show up, serve their communities, and make a difference year after year. Jack, we are so proud to recognize you today and celebrate this incredible achievement.

Congratulations, Jack, and all of the other Star of Life Award recipients! Thank you for your dedication to EMS and to your communities! đź’›

Today’s EMS Week theme is Save-A-Life Day! A reminder that saving lives starts long before the emergency happens.

These photos are from our vehicle rescue training this week with LEMSA and Quarryville Fire Company, where crews worked together to practice the skills, communication, and teamwork needed during serious vehicle accidents.

Trainings like this help prepare us for the moments when every second counts. From safely accessing patients to coordinating care on scene, each skill we practice plays a role in giving someone the best chance at survival.

Save-A-Life Day is also a reminder that everyone has a part to play. Whether it’s learning CPR, stopping severe bleeding, calling 911 quickly, or simply knowing how to stay safe at an emergency scene, preparedness can make a difference.

Thank you to LEMSA and Quarryville Fire Company for joining us in this training and helping strengthen emergency response in our community.
Because saving a life starts with being ready.

As we continue celebrating EMS Week, today’s EMS for Children Day gave us the opportunity to focus on one of the most important parts of our job, caring for kids in our community.

Today, our crew visited Providence Elementary School for Career Day, where we spoke with the fifth graders about emergency medical services, ambulance operations, safety, and what it means to help others during an emergency. The students asked amazing questions and got a hands on look at the world of EMS.

EMS Week is about more than emergency response, it’s about education, preparedness, and building strong community connections. We are proud to serve our community with providers specially trained to care for patients of all ages, including through our expert level Prepared for Pediatrics certification with PAEMSC.

Thank you to Providence Elementary for inviting us to be part of Career Day and helping us celebrate EMS for Children Day by inspiring the next generation.

At Wakefield Ambulance Association, Safety Day isn’t just about policies, reflective gear, or checklists , it’s about making sure everyone goes home at the end of the shift.
In EMS, safety lives in the small moments people rarely see. It’s the partner reminding you to slow down after a long night. It’s checking equipment one more time before a call. It’s taking an extra second to secure a patient, watching for traffic on scene, lifting smarter, speaking up when something feels unsafe, and trusting the crew beside you to do the same.

Every response carries risk, and behind every siren is a team balancing urgency with responsibility. The reality of EMS is that we are constantly adapting to unpredictable scenes, changing conditions, and high pressure situations while still working to provide calm, compassionate care to our community.

Today serves as a reminder that safety is not a one day topic in EMS. It is built into every training, every truck check, every difficult conversation, and every decision made in the field. Looking out for each other is just as important as looking out for our patients.

To all EMS providers: thank you for continuing to protect your communities, your partners, and yourselves.
