This Memorial Day, the Paynesville Fire Department pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave everything in service to our country.

Their sacrifice is the reason we are able to gather with family, enjoy our freedoms, and serve the communities we love. We will never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

As you spend time with loved ones this weekend, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect, remember, and honor our fallen heroes.

From all of us at the Paynesville Fire Department - have a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

🚨 TRAINING NOTICE 🚨

Tonight, Paynesville Fire & Rescue will be conducting a search and rescue training exercise in the area near Meeker County Regional Park.

Residents may notice an increased presence of emergency vehicles, personnel, lights, and activity in the area during the training. This is only a training exercise, and there is no cause for concern.

We appreciate your support as our members continue to train and prepare to better serve our community.

There are days that just stick with you- and today was one of them. Watching kids laugh and play in a space built just for them, surrounded by families and a community that truly cares, is something special. This new park is more than just a playground- it’s a place where memories will be made for years to come.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the park dedication, took the time to check out the trucks, and stopped to talk with us. Those moments -small as they may seem- are what build real connection between us and the community we’re proud to serve.

We were honored to be part of it all, and grateful to stand alongside a community that shows up, supports one another, and invests in its future.

Today, we stand alongside the Minnetonka Fire Department as they grieve the loss of Deputy Fire Marshal Shawn Johnson - a brother in the fire service whose life was defined by service, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to others.

For two decades, Shawn answered the call without hesitation. He showed up on people’s worst days and gave everything he had to make them better. He wasn’t just doing a job- he was living out a calling. The kind of calling that asks more of you than most will ever understand.

This loss hits close to home. Because in this line of work, it doesn’t matter what patch you wear or what city name is on your truck - we are one family. And when one of us falls, we all feel it.

To our brothers and sisters in Minnetonka- we are grieving with you. We are praying for you. And we want you to know you are not standing alone in this.

Shawn’s watch may be over, but his impact will never fade. It lives on in the people he protected, the firefighters he mentored, and the example he set for all of us who continue to answer the call.

Rest easy, brother. We’ll take it from here.

The Paynesville Fire Department wants to remind everyone to prepare for the expected blizzard conditions moving into our area. Weather like this can change quickly and create extremely dangerous travel conditions.

Strong winds combined with snowfall can lead to near-zero visibility, drifting snow, and icy roadways. If you do not need to be out on the roads, please consider staying home until conditions improve.

If you must travel:
- Slow down and drive with caution
- Allow extra stopping distance
- Turn your headlights on
- Carry an emergency kit with blankets, water, a phone charger, and other essentials
- Let someone know your travel plans

Blizzard conditions can also impact emergency response times. Our crews will always respond when needed, but keeping roads clear and limiting unnecessary travel helps ensure emergency responders can reach those who truly need help.

Now is also a good time to:
- Check that your vehicles are fueled
- Make sure snow removal equipment is ready
- Check on elderly neighbors or those who may need assistance

Your safety is our priority. Please plan ahead, stay informed, and stay safe.
