πŸŽ‰ BIG NEWS FOR PAYNE! πŸŽ‰

The Village of Payne is proud to announce that we have been awarded $400,000 through the Ohio Department of Transportation's Safe Routes to School Program to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility for our students and families. Along with this the Village was also awarded $256,000 through a TAPS grant allowing us a total of $656,000 grant funding for sidewalk improvements.

The Foraker Sidewalk Project will include:
- New 5-foot sidewalks along Plainfield Drive and Foraker Street
- Replacement of aging sidewalks on Townline
- Improved walkability and safer routes for students traveling to and from school

This project is the result of collaboration between the Village of Payne, Wayne Trace Local Schools, community partners, and residents who supported our Safe Routes to School efforts. Designs were based off the data received from the surveys taken through the school. These improvements will help create safer connections for children, encourage walking and biking, and enhance accessibility throughout our community. Projected timeline and finalized designs will be shared once a contractor's bid is awarded through public bidding. Likely late summer of 2027, or spring of 2028.

We are grateful to Governor Mike DeWine, ODOT, and Kleinfelder of Defiance, and everyone who supported this application. This investment in Payne's future will help ensure our students have safe pathways to school for years to come.
