The officers and members of PSFR greatly appreciate Martin Marine Construction. They always support us when we need assistance. This time they helped rebuild a elevated deck that holds 3 AC units for station 1. The work looks great and thanks for your continued support.

Yesterday afternoon the volunteers of PSFR were alerted for a small but fast moving grass fire on Peach Tree road. The fire was reported to be in the ditch at the time of dispatch. While responding the call was updated to 2 fires. One on the 800 block and one in the 600 block. PSFR Brush 1, Brush 2, Brush 3, Tanker 1, and Command 1 all responded quickly and were able to quickly contain the fires.

It’s really dry out there and the afternoon humidity is very low. Please use caution with anything that could potentially cause a spark.

Monday was a busy day for multiple departments in Henderson County.

The volunteers of PSFR responded to several mutual aid fires. These fires included a large grass fire by the Crossroads High School, a car and wildland fire near Star Harbor, and multiple grass fires along 3441 south of Malakoff. While responding to these calls we always had a crew available in district.

On Saturday afternoon the volunteers of PSFR were alerted for a grass fire on FM 316. A fire started in a hay baler and spread to the grass. The operator of the hay baler noticed it smoking and worked to move to a good location that helped to minimize the size of the fire.

PSFR was assisted by Gun Barrel City Fire and Eustace Fire. With the current drought and weather conditions, PSFR is adding mutual aid immediately on any grass fire calls.

We are still under a burn ban. It is very very dry in our district. We have responded to 4 burn ban violations over the last two days.

One burn ban violation was literally in the line of sight of the major wildland fire that we had last week.

Just don’t burn.

The cost of everything fire related have increased.

The cost of everything fire related have increased.

The cost of outfitting a single firefighter in protective gear has doubled from about $2,500 to as much as $6,000, as departments work to protect members from cancer-causing “forever chemicals” known as PFAS.

Poison in the fabric: Cost of PFAS-free firefighter gear strains volunteer departments
