Sharing on behalf of the school district:

Our Pawnee High School National Honor Society will be participating in a community service project on Saturday, April 18th. Students will be painting the blacktop behind the school, so there will be no access to that area or the back of the building on that day.

The blacktop will reopen on Monday, April 20th.
Thank you for your flexibility as our students work to serve our school and refresh a space for our elementary students!

Spring hydrant flushing will begin April 13th. Flushing will start on the West side of town and move East over the next 3 weeks. Checkout these commonly asked questions about Hydrant Flushing and how it affects you:https://media.websitecdn.net/sites/955/2024/04/Flushing-FAQ.pdf

Pawnee Schools Parents,

We would like to inform you, on behalf of the school district, to refrain from driving behind the school between the hours of the school day and 3:30 pm. During this time, students are outside, and towards the end of the day, buses are loading students behind the building. The school district aims to prevent traffic from driving behind the building to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and bus drivers.

We understand that traffic congestion on 4th street can be busy, and it may seem easier to drive around the back of the school. However, we kindly request that the community refrain from doing so.

Let's work together to maintain a safe environment for our school, students, faculty, and bus drivers.

Thank you,
Pawnee PD & Pawnee CUSD #1

🚍 IMPORTANT SCHOOL BUS SAFETY REMINDER – Pawnee & Surrounding Areas 🛑

It is ILLEGAL to pass a stopped school bus when its stop sign arm is extended and/or RED lights are flashing. This applies in BOTH directions on most roads, in any location—including highways, side streets, parking lots, school property, and private roads—when the bus is stopped to load or unload students.

Under Illinois law – 625 ILCS 5/11-1414 (from the Illinois Vehicle Code):

Drivers must come to a complete stop before reaching the bus when its visual signals (flashing red lights and extended stop arm) are activated.

Do NOT proceed until the bus resumes motion, the signals are turned off, the stop arm is retracted, or the bus driver signals you to go.

Violating this puts children's lives at risk and carries serious penalties: a minimum $300 fine and a 3-month driver's license suspension for a first offense (plus court appearance required).

Let's keep our kids safe—STOP for school buses!

Pawnee Residents,

We know school drop-off and pick-up can be hectic and time-consuming for everyone—thank you for your patience as we all navigate the morning rush together. We understand that traffic on 4th Street in front of the school is tedious in the morning.

Your careful driving and attentiveness make a big difference in keeping our students, staff, and neighbors safe. One quick reminder to help make things smoother and more accessible for all:

Please do NOT block or park in handicapped parking spaces during drop-off. We see this happen frequently, and those spots are reserved for individuals who truly need them due to mobility challenges. We do address it when we can.

Keeping them clear ensures everyone can get where they need to go safely and comfortably. A small act of courtesy goes a long way—thank you in advance for being mindful and helping us maintain a safe, respectful environment around our school district.

Drive safe, stay patient, and have a great day!
