Chief Standing Bear Statement on Immigration and Customs Enforcement

"Police powers must be used lawfully with restraint and professionalism. The Osage Nation maintains clear lines of communication with all law enforcement agencies, federal, state, and local. We stand firm with the United States Constitution that states all individuals - American citizens and immigrants, regardless of legal status - are guaranteed fundamental rights under the Constitution, including due process, equal protection, freedom of speech, and protection against unlawful search and seizure.

Should there be any violation or threat of violation of a person's civil rights within our jurisdiction, the Osage Nation Police Department (ONPD) is prepared for lawful intervention. ONPD Chief Nick Williams is in active communication with federal and state leadership to stay aware of any ICE activity within our jurisdiction."

Guidance from ONPD | The physical and emotional safety of Osage citizens is our top priority:

- Make sure you have your identification at all times, including a federal or state-issued photo ID and your Osage Nation membership.
- Do not engage in an activity that could put you or someone else at risk.
- If you have an emergency, call 911.
- Save the ONPD non-emergency line to your contacts and call if you need to make a report or are seeking non-emergency assistance: (918) 287-3131.
