The Patterson Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank the Marine Corp League once again for hosting its Firefighter of the Year banquet. Each year, they honor one member from each of St. Mary Parish's fire departments.

πŸ”₯ Patterson Volunteer Fire Department Firefighter of the Year πŸ”₯

The Patterson Volunteer Fire Department is incredibly proud to recognize Nancy Kinslow as our Firefighter of the Year! πŸ‘©β€πŸš’β€οΈ

Nancy’s dedication to the Patterson Volunteer Fire Department goes far above and beyond. When she is on scene, she is always making sure everyone is accounted for and that the safety of our firefighters remains a top priority. She makes sure reports are completed, information is documented, and that the details that keep our department running smoothly don’t get overlooked.

But Nancy’s commitment doesn’t end when the call is over. She is always willing to step up and help organize fundraisers, department activities, events, and anything else that needs to be done. She is someone we know we can depend on whenever the department needs a helping hand.
On a personal level, Nancy keeps me on the straight and narrow. πŸ˜‚ She makes sure I’m doing what needs to be done and reminds me when something may have been forgotten. I know I can call her at any time, and she will always answer and help me work through whatever issue we may be facing.
Her dedication, dependability, leadership, and commitment to the safety of our members truly represent what the volunteer fire service is all about. She gives countless hours of her time without ever asking for recognition and is always willing to step up when she is needed.
Nancy, thank you for everything you do for me, our members, and the Patterson Volunteer Fire Department. Your dedication goes far above and beyond what is expected, and we are incredibly proud to call you our 2026 Firefighter of the Year! πŸ†πŸ”₯
πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ A Special Thank You
We would also like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to the U.S. Marine Corps League for honoring Nancy and all of the other deserving recipients recognized during this special event. Your support, generosity, and appreciation for those who serve our communities means more than you know.
And congratulations to ALL of the award recipients! πŸ†πŸ‘ Every person recognized has demonstrated dedication, service, sacrifice, and a willingness to step up and make a difference. Each award is well deserved, and we are honored to celebrate alongside you.
Thank you to everyone who takes the time to recognize and support the men and women who serve their communities. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έβ€οΈπŸš’
Congratulations, Nancy, and congratulations to all of the recipients! We are proud of each and every one of you! πŸ‘πŸ”₯

The Patterson Volunteer Fire Department is proud to announce a historic achievement in fire protection for the citizens we serve. Following the most recent evaluation by the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana (PIAL), the Patterson Volunteer Fire Department has received a Public Protection Classification of Class 3 for District 6A, which encompasses the City of Patterson.

This marks the first time in the history of the Patterson Volunteer Fire Department that District 6A has achieved a Class 3 rating, making it the best fire protection classification the department has ever received.

What Does a Class 3 Rating Mean?

The Property Insurance Association of Louisiana evaluates fire protection throughout Louisiana and determines a Public Protection Classification (PPC) for graded areas. This classification is made available to insurance companies and is one of the factors that may be considered when determining property insurance rates.

Achieving a Class 3 is about much more than the number displayed on a report. It represents the overall capabilities and preparedness of the community’s fire protection system.

PIAL’s fire protection grading process evaluates numerous components of a community’s ability to respond to and control fires. This includes areas such as the fire department’s apparatus and equipment, pumping capabilities, personnel and response capabilities, firefighter training, communications and dispatch, water supply, hydrant systems, testing and maintenance programs, and the records and documentation necessary to demonstrate that these systems are being properly maintained.

Reaching a Class 3 demonstrates the significant amount of work that has been invested in improving and maintaining fire protection within the City of Patterson.

This accomplishment would not be possible without the dedication of the volunteer firefighters of the Patterson Volunteer Fire Department, who give countless hours to training, emergency response, equipment maintenance, apparatus checks, testing, record keeping, and the many other responsibilities required to maintain an effective fire department.

The Patterson Volunteer Fire Department would also like to announce that the areas we protect outside the City of Patterson in Fire Protection District 6 have received a Class 6 Public Protection Classification.

This evening at approximately 6:10pm Patterson Vol. Fire Dept. was dispatched to the 300 block of Tiffany St. for a structure fire. The first apparatus arrived in just under 5 minutes and found a residential home with moderate smoke showing. PVFD members met with the homeowner who advised everyone was out and accounted for. Attack lines were deployed and the fire was quickly brought under control. PVFD requested assistance from Bayou Vista, Berwick and Centerville fire department due to extreme heat conditions. Members were able to rescue 4 pets that were inside of the residence.

Chief Hutton would like to reiterate the importance of evacuating, reporting the emergency and never re-entering a home that is on fire. Patterson responded with 2 engines, 1 service truck and 10 members. There was a total of approximately 30 responders and 6 apparatus on scene of this event.
