Lunch and auction today 11 am starts lunch 12 is the auction. Also in the auction is a black chest deep freeze with a butchered and packaged hog. Thanks to rent2own in Gallipolis and the Gallia County Republican party.

I'm proactively declaring a state of emergency in Ohio due to the damaging and dangerous conditions Winter Storm Fern is expected to bring to our state this weekend. I continue to encourage everyone to stay home unless it's absolutely necessary to be out.

Public Safety Advisory: Approaching Winter Storm
Date: 1/24/2026

The Madison-Jefferson Fire Department is advising residents to prepare for an approaching winter storm expected to bring hazardous conditions, that could include snow, ice, high winds, and dangerously cold temperatures.

To protect yourself, your family, and first responders, please follow these safety precautions:

Before the Storm
• Monitor local weather updates and emergency alerts.
• Prepare an emergency kit with food, water, medications, flashlights, batteries, and blankets.
• Charge mobile devices and backup power supplies.
• Ensure heating systems are working properly; have fireplaces and space heaters inspected and used safely.
• Bring pets indoors and ensure livestock have adequate shelter and water.

During the Storm
• Avoid unnecessary travel. Road conditions may become dangerous quickly.
• If travel is unavoidable, keep an emergency kit in your vehicle and inform someone of your route.
• Use space heaters safely—keep them at least three feet from combustible materials and never leave them unattended.
• Never use generators, grills, or fuel-burning devices indoors due to carbon monoxide risk.
• Check on elderly neighbors and those who may need assistance.

After the Storm
• Use caution around downed power lines and report them immediately to authorities.
• Clear snow and ice safely to avoid injury; take breaks and avoid overexertion.
• Keep fire hydrants clear of snow to ensure emergency access.

The Fire Department and all First Responders, urges residents to take these precautions seriously. Severe winter weather can strain emergency services, and preparedness helps ensure faster response for those in need.

You might as well turn this sucker off!
all the fire departments in the county need help. We’ve heard all the excuses. I can’t commit to (fill in the blank), I’m not always available, I’m too young/old, I don’t know anything about it. They are just excuses. We are all volunteers. We can when we can and we can’t when we can’t.
This is an incredible job you get paid for in ways that aren’t money. If you’ve ever thought about it, contact the VFD in your area. The hardest part, is walking through that station door the first time.
We all live in the communities we serve. How can you make a difference?
