We’re channeling our inner sloth…and positing a few a days late for International Sloth Day! We have one sloth at our facility, Edward (Scissor Hands) the two-toed sloth. Often mistaken for being lazy or dim witted, sloths are nothing of the sort! Their slow metabolism and careful movement is a survival strategy to blend in with the swaying branches of the jungles of central and South America, where their primary predators are Jaguars, Ocelots, and Harpy Eagles. However, in the wild they only sleep 8-10 hours a day, just like human teenagers!

One of our favorite things about the support we receive from our wonderful visitors, is the support we get to pass on to other fantastic organizations! We bring our interaction ambassadors to many fundraisers for worthy causes across the country in order to help drive attendance…and donations! Being able to provide a tactile experience through our ambassadors is an extremely powerful way to bring the animals and environments we’re trying to protect closer to the hearts and minds of the people who support them. North American River Otters are the epitome of cuteness! With their playful antics and adorable expressions, these aquatic mammals are nature’s charmers. We have two here at the zoo (Ollie and Tucker) and whether they’re playing in the ball pit or splashing around their in-ground pond, their endearing and playful behaviors make them popular and educational ambassadors!
