Today, we pause to remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, the first responders who ran toward danger, and all who answered the call to serve in the days and years that followed.

Twenty-five years later, may we never allow the passage of time to lessen the weight of that day or the importance of remembering it.

🚨 IMPORTANT FLOODPLAIN UPDATE – from the JACKSON COUNTY (MISSISSIPPI) PLANNING DEPARTMENT 🚨

Jackson County has now adopted a 1-foot freeboard requirement in all Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs).

📐 What does this mean?
The newly adopted 1-foot freeboard requirement is in addition to the current elevation requirements already applicable to properties located within Special Flood Hazard Areas.

This means that applicable structures must be elevated an additional one (1) foot above the required elevation.

🏠 If you are planning to build, elevate, remodel, or develop property within a Special Flood Hazard Area, this new requirement may affect your project, plans, permitting, and construction costs.

📋 Before beginning your project, please contact Jackson County's floodplain official to confirm the elevation requirements that apply to your property @ 228-769-3114.

Our goal is to help ensure that development throughout Jackson County is safer, more resilient, and compliant with current floodplain regulations.

📢 IMPORTANT UPDATE – from the JACKSON COUNTY (MISSISSIPPI) PLANNING DEPARTMENT

Jackson County has officially adopted the 2024 Family of ICC Codes for construction and building standards.

🏗️ This adoption helps ensure that construction projects throughout Jackson County are designed and built in accordance with the latest nationally recognized safety and building standards.

The 2024 ICC Codes apply to applicable new construction, renovations, additions, and other permitted work throughout the county.

If you are planning a construction project, we encourage you to make sure your plans and project requirements comply with the newly adopted codes.
