⚠️ ROY CUMBEST BRIDGE CLOSURE ANNOUNCEMENT ⚠️

The Jackson County Road Department will be closing the Roy Cumbest Bridge (on Wade-Vancleave Road) tomorrow , Thursday - June 4 at approximately NOON, due to significant roadway erosion on the west side of the bridge caused by recent rainfall.

At this time, noon is the targeted closure time; however, motorists are encouraged to make alternate travel plans in advance and avoid waiting until the last minute to adjust their routes.

County officials recognize that this closure will impact residents and others who rely on the bridge for daily travel. While it has always been understood that a closure would eventually be necessary as repairs moved forward, the County's intention was to keep the bridge open for as long as conditions safely allowed. However, ongoing weather impacts, construction conditions, and increasing safety concerns have accelerated that timeline, making an earlier-than-anticipated closure necessary to protect the traveling public and ensure the safety of both motorists and work crews.

The bridge is expected to remain closed indefinitely while crews continue to assess conditions and determine the scope of repairs needed to safely restore access.

The safety of our residents and visitors remains our highest priority. Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.

We understand this closure may cause inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as crews work to address this issue safely and responsibly.
