General Eric Smith, the 39th Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps and member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, visited to review the construction progress on the two amphibious warships, Bougainville (LHA8) and Harrisburg (LPD30). The YRBM 57 (Yard, Repair, Berthing and Messing) barge is being towed from Conrad Shipyard in Amelia, Louisiana to Naval Base San Diego for post delivery availability prior to final delivery in Japan.
