"To the cheers of local children, city leaders will lay out the welcome mat at Reese’s Retreat during a community grand opening celebration Saturday, April 30, at 9 a.m. Located in the southeast corner of Brookside Park just east of the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center, Reese’s Retre

at is Pasadena’s first universally accessible playground designed with special equipment to delight children of all ages and abilities. The fanciful spot is named for Reese Elliott, the late son of Marchelle Sellers and James Elliott. Born with special needs, Reese loved nothing more than to play pirates and superheroes with other children, inspiring his mother to become a vocal supporter of inclusive playgrounds. Like Reese, about 2,600 kids in Pasadena have disabilities. Beckoning with its giant pirate ship, Reese’s Retreat comes complete with ramps, a cannonball climber, an eight-bay swing set and sensory play structures that invite children to play with water and sand. The nearly half-acre oasis was designed in partnership with the Pasadena Public Works Department, Shane’s Inspiration, Recreation West Outdoor Products and David Evans and Associates. The $1.2 million cost was covered by a $1 million state grant, a $25,000 award from the National Organization on Disability, Brookside Gold Course greens fees and residential impact fees." Bring your children to Reese's Retreat tomorrow (Wesdnesday) at 12pm and you may be on KNBC news! Channel 4 is doing a feature on the park and we need children of ALL abilities to come and enjoy and show everyone just how wonderful the park is!

So, we need your help! Reeses Retreat is the only adaptive park in Pasadena for children of all abilities! It opened 4.5 years ago and it STILL does not have a sign! People only know how to find it if they stumble on it. Imagine all of the families who would enjoy this playground, but will never know it is there. Leave your comments here to share with the City Council or better yet, join us for public comment at the City Council meeting in Pasadena on Monday, November 2nd. We need your voice to get a sign up!

Such a great time of year to enjoy Reese's Retreat with the water features, etc. We are working with the City Council to finally put up some much needed signage!

The water feature at Reese's Retreat is the perfect way for any child, big or small, to cool off this summer! Post your pictures and share your fun with us! Reese loved music, so make some noise with the instruments built into the ship!

Reese's Retreat needs a sign! It seems the City forgot to include it in the plans. Any ideas for signs and placement are welcome!

Was talking with a friend whose daughter can not walk on her own. She had never played in a park before. She was recently given an electric stander and visited Reese's Retreat for two hours with her cousins! According to her mom, she had an absolute blast and didn't want to leave because she could move around so freely!
