As the charitable hand of Firefighters First Credit Union, the mission of the Fire Family Foundation is to support firefighters and their families in times of need. History:
After 9/11, when 343 firefighters lost their lives, Firefighters First Credit Union received an outpouring of donations to support the New York City firefighter community. The Credit Union used these funds to make a significa
nt positive impact on firefighters’ families, inspiring Credit Union leaders to establish a nonprofit foundation focused exclusively on serving firefighter families. Founded in 2008, the Fire Family Foundation is dedicated to supporting the firefighter community, whose members risk their lives every day to protect our lives and property. We support firefighters who are experiencing hardship and offer them hope in their time of need. Current Programs:
1. Firefighter Relief Fund: providing financial assistance to firefighters and their families nationwide who are experiencing hardship
2. Fire Charity Fund: providing financial assistance to other fire charities nationwide in support of the local needs of firefighters
3. Disaster Relief: providing financial assistance and relief supplies (blankets, toiletries, etc.) to firefighters affected by US federally declared disasters
4. Scholarships: awarding $50,000 in merit-based college scholarships each year to the children of firefighters
Firefighters First Credit Union supports the Fire Family Foundation’s overhead costs, so 100% of donations go directly to support the mission.
