This week is Banned Books Week.

Each year, the American Library Association spearheads an awareness campaign centered around a simple idea - the freedom to read. This annual observation began more than 40 years ago in response to a sudden surge in the number of attempts to censor or remove books in libraries, schools, and bookstores. A movement that is still relevant today.

This yea, ALA is inviting us all to join in and ask, "Why can’t they just let books be?" Declaring: Let Books Be.

Raise awareness about frequently challenged books and the freedom to read with us while we help protect the Freedom to Read.

All week long we'll feature statistics on book banning, an intellectual freedom guide, and our recommended reading list perfectly paired to meet this moment in time.
