It's National Public Health Week!

As we celebrate, take a moment to recognize how public health has improved our daily lives, safeguarded our families, expanded our life spans, and strengthened our communities. This week is also a chance to honor the public health workers who show up for us every day — and to advocate for policies and practices that promote good health for all.
So far in the 21st century, public health has achieved (not ranked in a particular order):
* Cancer screening recommendations to reduce mortality
* Lead exposure prevention - fewer children have elevated blood lead levels
* HIV control - pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and other HIV treatments have lowered transmission rates and reduced mortality from HIV
* Public health preparedness and response
* Occupational safety
* Expansion of newborn screenings
* Prevention and control of infectious diseases - reduction in tuberculosis, better diagnostic tools for various diseases

Is there a new baby in your family?

Pertussis, also known as whooping cough, is a highly contagious respiratory disease.
Newborns cannot receive vaccine protection against pertussis until 2 months in age, and they are not fully protected until they are 1 year old.
By vaccinating all close contact family members and caregivers, we can help protect or "cocoon" babies from pertussis.

We offer free Tdap vaccine for family members and caregivers with close contact to an infant. Call us at 620-421-4350 to schedule an appointment.
