In 1935, a group of public-spirited citizens recognizing the need for fire protection in Fire District # 3, began taking steps leading to the formation of the Lake Parsippany Volunteer Fire Company. This was a difficult task. It was a new community that was experiencing an era of building and expansion. Early in September 1935, the Fire Company was formally organized. The first elected officers were: President, Mr. Henry Williams; Vice-President, Mr. Milton Gibian; Secretary, Mr. Randolph Hamroth; Treasurer, Mr. Edward Flanagan; and Chief, Mr. Frank Sena. Incorporation formalities were approved on November 2, 1935. Without delay, the members were determined to go ahead. Monies were loaned by some members to purchase some fire equipment and a committee was formed to investigate the possibility of purchasing a used fire truck. The first fire truck was obtained from the Livingston Fire Company by December 1935. The Morris Plains Fire Association provided fire rings with which to summon members to a fire. In those early days, the meetings were held in the residences of Mr. Peter Yeager of Kingston Road and Mr. Edward Flanagan of Centerton Drive. The Lake Parsippany Property Owners Association Club House became available for meetings afterwards. The next problem was to obtain a suitable location to house the fire truck. Land was purchased from the New York Daily Mirror and construction was started on the firehouse in August 1936. Within one year after organizing, the Fire Company had though dances, raffles and the help of generous contributors, became a full-fledged fire company. Shortly after our first anniversary in December 1936 we welcomed one of our most valuable assets: the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lake Parsippany Volunteer Fire Company. They performed remarkable work for the firefighters and much of our progress is the result of their continued efforts and support. Words cannot express our sincere gratitude for the many nights they supplied hot coffee in the freezing weather while the members were engaged with firefighting duties we salute the Lake Parsippany Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. The passing years have seen continued improvements and the members of the Lake Parsippany Volunteer Fire Company have been dedicated to protecting life and property in District # 3 in the Parsippany-Troy Hills Township. In the year 2002 the Lake Parsippany Volunteer Fire Company moved across the street to their new home on Halsey Road. The old firehouse stills continues to serve our community as a substation for the Parsippany Rescue and Recovery Unit. New neighbors and their families continue to join in the spirit of the "Volunteer" and follows our motto:

🇺🇸 NEVER FORGET — SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 🇺🇸

Today, the Lake Parsippany Volunteer Fire Department District 3 joins our community and our nation in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We honor the 2,977 innocent lives lost, including the 343 FDNY firefighters, along with law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, and all of the brave first responders who answered the call that day.

We also remember those who have since lost their lives or continue to suffer from illnesses related to their service at Ground Zero.

Twenty-five years later, their courage, sacrifice, and memory remain with us.

Today, our flag flies at half-mast in honor of Dawn Turo, a remarkable woman whose smile, kindness and life touched so many. Dawn the wife of former chief, firefighter and life-member, Michael Turo for over 35 years.

After years of dedicated service and sacrifice, she and her husband retired and purchased a home on May 20th, ready to begin a new chapter together. Sadly, that chapter was cut short.

Today, we are also reminded that behind every first responder is a family that serves alongside them. Spouses, children, parents, and loved ones endure long shifts, missed holidays, sleepless nights, and the constant worry of whether their loved first responder will return home safely. Their sacrifices are often unseen, but are crucial to the backbone of our first responders.

Today, as our flag is lowered to half-mast in her honor, we also honor all the families of first responders who quietly bear the weight of service to their communities. They are an essential part of every call answered, every emergency responded to, and every life saved.

Please keep Dawn Turo, Mike Turo and their son, Michael Angelo, and all who loved her in your thoughts during this difficult time.

May we never forget that service is a family commitment, and those who stand behind our first responders deserve our gratitude and respect as well.

Dawn, you are loved by all, may your soul rest in peace and your memory continue to bring us all joy.

Services will be held on Monday, July 6th at Par-Troy Funeral Home.

This week, the members of the Lake Parsippany Fire Company drilled on hazardous materials decontamination “HAZMAT decon” methods alongside Districts 2, 5 and 6.

Hazmat decontamination is a critical step in protecting those who may be exposed to dangerous contaminants. Proper decontamination procedures help prevent the spread of hazardous materials and reduce long-term health risks.
