Thanks to everyone who came out to clean up around our beloved Cleveland Metroparks Big Creek Parkway in Parma and Parma Heights this morning! If you could not make it, I encourage you to safely take an hour every now and then to walk through the park to pick up trash. Keep clear of dangerous items - call a park ranger if you do see something dangerous.

What an honor to spend some time today with the Honorable Lee Fisher at Baldwin Wallace University. He is a true public servant who served as our state Attorney General and Lt. Governor, as well as several years in the Ohio General Assembly. Looking forward to our partnership - working together to help our local scholars become the next generation of leaders - during his presidency.

This week I joined Rep. Eric Synenberg, former Ohio Supreme Court Justice Michael Donnelly, former Chief Justice Eric Brown, and members of the legal community to support efforts to restore Ohio’s longstanding judicial endorsement rule.

As a former high school American Government and law teacher, I taught thousands of students that an independent judiciary is one of the fundamental pillars of our democracy. Courts must be guided by the rule of law—not partisan politics.

Ohio is now the only state in the nation that allows judges to publicly endorse political candidates. That should concern anyone who values public confidence in our justice system. The appearance of impartiality is just as important as impartiality itself.

Judicial independence is not a partisan issue. It is essential to maintaining trust in our courts and ensuring that every Ohioan receives fair and unbiased treatment under the law.

I support Eric K. Synenberg’s efforts to protect the integrity, independence, and credibility of Ohio’s judiciary.

Great news for Ohio’s future educators! 🎉

This week the Ohio House passed my bipartisan Future Educators Support Act (HB 523) by a 91-0 vote. Thanks to all of my colleagues.🙏

As a former teacher, I know how challenging and rewarding the path to the classroom can be. If we want the best and brightest teaching Ohio’s students, we need to support them along the way.

Now on to the Senate!

Being a teacher brings many blessings. Today I ran into Shannon who was a student in my American government class. I was brought to tears today when she told me how happy she was, especially in light of her recent marriage to a young U.S. Navy man. I am so proud of you Shannon! You are beautiful inside and out!

This week I joined my fellow University of Dayton grad Daniel P. Troy: A Voice Of Reason in introducing legislation to protect Ohio veterans from so-called “claim sharks”—for-profit companies that charge veterans excessive fees for assistance in obtaining benefits they have earned through their service.

Ohio veterans already have access to accredited Veterans Service Officers and organizations that provide claims assistance at no cost. Our bill strengthens protections for veterans and helps ensure they are not misled into paying for services that are be available for free.

Those who served our country deserve support, not exploitation. I’m proud to stand up for Ohio’s veterans and safeguard the benefits they earned through their sacrifice.
Thank you David K. Root of the VFW Department of Ohio for your instrumental help in crafting this important legislation!
