You will see our officers wearing mourning bands on their badges this week. That is because it is National Police Week, an annual observance in the United States, held in May, dedicated to honoring law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Established by Congress in 1962, it features memorial events across the country with a national event held in Washington D.C.

Local events to honor police week, hosted by the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial Society include the following:

Monday, May 11 - Candlelight Vigil: 7:45 p.m. at the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial site in Huntington Park (Lakeside Avenue and West 3rd Street)

Friday, May 15 - (Peace Officers Memorial Day) Police Memorial Parade: 10:30 a.m. starting at Lakeside Avenue and East 12th Street, marching to the memorial site.

Memorial Service: 11:30 a.m. at the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial immediately following the parade.

It’s a week for us to make sure we highlight those important department members! 🗓️

Animal Control Officer (ACO) Appreciation Week is celebrated annually during the second full week of April to honor the, often dangerous, work of animal care and control personnel. Supported by the National Animal Care & Control Association (NACA), this week recognizes professionals who rescue animals, enforce welfare laws, provide community education, and protect public safety.

We are indescribably appreciative and grateful for the work of our certified ACO Braude of Brooklyn & Parma Hts Animal Control her dedication and passion to the profession is second to none! 🐶🐈 She goes above and beyond and is never afraid to get her hands (or uniform) dirty to get the job done! From reuniting pets with their owners, to being an advocate for animals, to providing resources to residents with questions, she never slows down! She even provides training to our officers 👮‍♂️ ACO Braude, thank you and we appreciate you!

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, often called National Dispatcher Week, is held annually during the second full week of April to honor 911 emergency dispatchers. It recognizes these "heroes behind the headset" for their critical, 24/7 role in supporting public safety, coordinating first responders, and saving lives.

For us it is a chance to recognize the dedicated and hardworking crew of the The Parma Regional 911 Dispatch Center who are the voices on the other end of the radio during the chaos. In addition to being on the radio, these men and women also answer both your 911 and non-emergency calls.

Thank you for all you do for us! We appreciate you!

Just like our Service Department is out there prepping for what is expected to be a very snowy weekend, we want to continue to remind everyone that when a snow parking ban is in effect parking on city streets is prohibited! So as you do your own home’s preparation please make room in your driveway for all of the vehicles at your residence!

The meteorologists are saying we should be preparing for some snow! In preparation of that, please anticipate a Snow Parking Ban to take effect as we expect more than 2” of accumulation! This means no cars should be parked on the street to allow space for our service crews to safely clear the streets as well as emergency personnel to travel safely while responding to calls for service!
