Feature Friday: Meet Michael Koler, managing family & finances with integrity 💵👩🏼‍🤝‍👨🏻

🏠 This family business started in the spare bedroom of the Koler home in 1972 as a way to pay for their four sons’ college educations.

🧮 At the time, Alex Koler was working as head mathematician at a Cleveland steel mill, and Donna Koler was busy raising the children, then all under age eight.

💼 Today, after 54 years in business and more than three decades in the City of Parma Heights, Koler Financial Group, at 6400 Pearl Road, is a full-service financial planning firm helping more than 3,500 clients with retirement, investment, tax management, insurance, and estate planning.

💬 “We’re very proud and happy with the business we’ve built helping people navigate life’s opportunities and challenges,” Michael Koler said. “We are a family practice and help our clients with retirement planning, and planning for other big life events such as weddings, or buying a home. Every family is different, and their needs are different. There’s no cookie-cutter answer.”

👥 Alex Koler served as President of the firm until his passing in 2017. Donna Koler at 83 remains active in the firm assisting clients with tax and financial strategies as Vice President of Operations. Jerry Koler has succeeded his father as President while Michael Koler serves as a Financial Advisor, and Vice President of Financial Strategies. Brother David is a tax professional with 28 years’ experience in Information Technology and now Vice President and a Financial Advisor. Rounding out the team is David Stollings, a Financial Professional who is the firm’s Vice President of Tax Strategies.

🎓 Both Michael and Jerry Koler started their careers with other firms before eventually joining the family business. Michael earned an undergraduate degree in Finance from the Ohio State University, and later an MBA from Case Western Reserve University. He initially worked in banking before becoming a financial financial advisor.

🩺 “We both earned our stripes before coming into the family business,” he said. Initially, he wanted to be a doctor. But after one year of pre-med studies, he switched course. “Medicine didn’t seem to be the right fit (for me).”

❓ Does he think there’s a secret to success?

✊🏻 “It’s about hard work, persistence and being honest. It’s about building trust and really about relationship building. It’s about how we apply our skills and kindness to people. We’re all equal parts navigator, coach and guide to help people achieve their financial goals. That trust endures over time.”

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Michael Koler is a father of three with his wife of 37 years, Jayna. Daughter Alyssa is 35, and twins Lauren and Ian are 27. The pair are grandparents of three also: Parker and Scottie, both 23 months, and Lincoln, age 11 weeks.

📢 Service Update: Spring Bulk & Yard Waste Collection

Republic Services is currently experiencing temporary delays in bulk and yard waste collection due to the heavy volume of spring clean-up materials throughout the city. ⏰

👷🏻‍♀️Crews in the City of Parma Heights are actively working to complete all pickups and to recover missed pickups.

Here is the service plan for the remainder of the week:

🚛 Wednesday, June 3 (Today): Crews are focusing on collecting bulk and yard waste west of Stumph Road/York Road. Normal garbage collection is still proceeding as scheduled today.

🚛 Thursday, June 4 – Friday, June 5: Crews will move east of Stumph Road/York Road to complete all remaining areas.

⚡️Resident Action: Please leave your bulk and yard waste at the curb until it is collected.

👷🏻Crews will get to your street as they move through these designated zones.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as Republic Services completes these seasonal cleanups across our community.🍃

The Ribbon is cut, now let’s have some fun! 🎀 ✂️

The City of Parma Heights brand new 12,000 square foot state-of-the-art Greenbrier Commons Playground is open just in time for summer! ☀️

🌟Mayor Marie Gallo and members of Parma Heights City Council were on hand to do the honors; with help from the little ones.

✨ It was a special afternoon indeed!

📜 Special thanks to Councilman Mark Casselberry County Council District 4 for presenting a proclamation celebrating the playground opening on behalf of 14th Ohio House District State Representative Sean P Brennan.

📍Located at Greenbrier Commons
@ 6200 Pearl Road
🗺️ Adjacent to the pool, pickleball, and tennis courts.

👨🏼‍🦽‍➡️Snider Recreation’s full ADA compliant design is a playground built for EVERY child with wheelchair-accessible ramps and zero-entry points.

🛝The 38 play elements for children ages 5-12 include spinners, saucer swings, climbing ropes, walls & boulders, along with slides and swings—including a special “Mommy & Me” swing.

👫🏼 It’s so fun for kids to walk across the simulated logs and run around in the open spaces, and there are plenty of spots for parents to sit and watch.

💵 Parma Heights funded this $235k playground project with help from a $150k grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

📢 A special shoutout to the Parma Heights Recreation Department and everyone who helped to bring this inclusive space to life for local families.

📣 Shoutout to the Building & Service Department specifically for tearing down the former playground set, removing the old dirt, grating the site, installing new infrastructure & drainage, and installing new stone and mulch in the space.

😊 Seeing the smiling faces of families enjoying our new playground is what this is about—creating a place where all kids can explore, play, and belong together!

☀️ Greenbrier Commons, at the heart of Parma Heights, and all the parks are being spruced up for the summer season!

🐾✂️ Feature Friday: Bubblenest Grooming Celebrates 40 Years of Pampered Pets! ✂️🐾

Looking for a place to pamper your favorite pooch? Well, look no further than Bubblenest Grooming, a full-service dog grooming salon located at 6354 Pearl Road. Kim Pavlisin took ownership of Bubblenest Grooming in 1986. 🐕

Your furry family member can get the full grooming treatment when you visit. 🐩

That includes a Bath, Nails, Ear Cleaning, A**l Gland Expression, Teeth Brushing, and a Haircut. 🛁 🪥

Pavlisin has achieved an A-plus rating from the Better Business Bureau, a fact she attributes to the personal touch. 🌟

💬 “People are busy. But they love their pets. We try to make this process easier for them by consulting with each customer about how they want their pet groomed, and then treating their pet as if they were our own. Kim said she feels grateful for anyone that has brought their pets in to be groomed because they are why Bubblnest has been successful. I started out years ago next to the Parma Heights Fire Department (further North on Pearl Road). Several years later I moved to this location, right next to the Southwest Animal Hospital. That’s really when the business grew,” she said. 🦴🐾

Bubblenest Grooming is open six days a week, Monday through Saturday, opening up as early as 6 am.🦮 🗓️

Check them out online at bubblenestgrooming.com. 🌐

Or you can call to make an appointment or get information at 440-886-6406. 📞 📲

🫧 “We offer a personalized, one-on-one service to our clients. Most dogs are with us for an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes,” she said. I do not take my job for granted. I’m in a luxury business. I understand that not everyone can afford to have their dogs groomed professionally.” 🐩🛁🐾

Her three person staff includes Jessica Barberic, who has been with her for 14 years, and Melanie White, who is a five-year employee. Kim, who resides in Concord, officially marked her 40th anniversary in the City of Parma Heights on May 5.✨🐾🫧

Kim believes in giving back to the community. In addition to her regular canine clients, she provides free grooming services to our K-9 officers in the Parma Heights Police Department.🐶👮🏻‍♀️

The license plate on her car really tells the whole story.

It reads: “I GROOM.” 🌟
