โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š Juneteenth โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š

Today, we recognize Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates freedom, resilience, and progress.

Observed each year on June 19, Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free โ€” more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

As we reflect on our nation's history, we also recognize the importance of continuing to build communities rooted in equality, opportunity, and respect for all.

๐Ÿ’œ World Elder Abuse Awareness Day ๐Ÿ’œ

Today, we join communities around the world in recognizing World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and reaffirming our commitment to protecting the dignity, safety, and well-being of older adults.

Elder abuse can take many forms, including physical, emotional, financial, and neglect. By staying informed, checking in on older neighbors and loved ones, and speaking up when something seems wrong, we can all help create a safer and more supportive community.

Every older adult deserves to be treated with respect, compassion, and dignity.

โš ๏ธ Storm Recovery Update โ€“ Please Use Caution โš ๏ธ

City crews continue to respond to storm-related damage throughout Parkville following last nightโ€™s severe weather.

The following roadways remain closed due to downed trees and power lines:

โ€ข Crooked Road at Bluff Drive/River Hills (see update below)
โ€ข Bell Road south of 63rd Street, near 61st Street

Crews are working closely with Evergy to safely clear these areas and reopen the roadways as quickly as possible.

๐Ÿšจ Please stay away from all downed power lines. Always assume a downed line is energized and dangerous, even if it is not sparking or moving. Keep yourself, your family, pets, and vehicles well away from any downed lines and report them immediately.

Additionally, a portion of the Riverfront Trail east of English Landing Park, near Ball Equipment and the Missouri River Boaters Association, will be temporarily closed Monday morning, June 15, while a storm-damaged tree is removed. Follow Parkville Parks & Recreation for updates.

Thank you to our Public Works, Police, Fire, and utility crews for their quick response. We also appreciate residentsโ€™ patience and cooperation as cleanup efforts continue.
