Thanks to the City of Parkville and Parks Director Brittanie Propes the significant improvement of the new walking bridge going into Platte Landing Park!

There's a new bridge in Platte Landing Park and its designed to improve safety and access in the popular park.

"For people coming to Platte Landing Park, this is going to make your experience so much better and much safer," said Brittanie Propes, director of the Parkville Parks and Recreation Department..

The city also hopes FIFA World Cup 26 fans will use the bridge to come from Riverside, the site of the Netherlands base camp, to Parkville.

Meeting Notice: Planning & Zoning Committee, TUESDAY, DEC 10 @ 5:30PM! Please attend if you are interested in Parkville's future landscape design standards that new developers and businesses must follow. Here is the link to the agenda:
https://parkvillemo.portal.civicclerk.com/event/622/files/attachment/7705

One point in the draft indicates that standards should require 60% NATIVE species in all new development landscape designs. That means 40% NON-NATIVE/INVASIVE species would be allowed! (Section F Plant Species.is shown below.)

Several CLARB members have expressed their opinions that the standard should be 70% NATIVE SPECIES instead of 60%. Research has shown that 70% actually creates sustainable landscapes that support insects, birds and other wildlife, and will help keep the park-like feel in our city.

Draft language as currently drafted:
F. Plant Species. All trees, shrubs and groundcover plants shall be NON-INVASIVE SPECIES, WITH A MINIMUM OF 60% of the selected plant material selected from the listing of Native and Native Cultivar Plant Materials. Other trees selected for use will be selected from the listing of Great Trees for the Kansas City Region.
