Dear citizens of Parkston, this is Chief Ryan Antaya with the Parkston Police Department. I started in mid January this year and have been addressing somethings that need attention. This weekend was extremely nice and I had a few calls on golf carts, ATVs, motorcycles and mopeds. I wanted to do some checking on a few things before I told people what they can and can not do. Here is a list of laws and ordinances EVERYONE NEEDS to follow when it comes to golf carts, ATV’s, motorcycles and mopeds.

Everyone that drives a golf cart, ATV, motorcycle or moped in city limits MUST have a valid Driver’s License. If they don’t have one then they can not be driving. Also a Learners Permit is NOT a Valid Driver License. No child with a Learners Permit or no Driver License can be driving a golf cart, ATV, motorcycle or moped in city limits, unless a licensed adult is riding with them. If anyone is caught driving with out a valid Driver License they will be stopped and they will have to wait there until someone with a valid Driver License comes and get it.

If any questions please call at 605-928-7301.

*A few other things to let people know. ALL golf carts, ATVs, motorcycles and mopeds must be insured when traveling on public roads in city limits.

*ATVs and motorcycles must have a vailed license plate. Golf carts do not need to have a license plate but they do need to have a city permit which needs to be renewed every year and must have a slow moving vehicle emblem. Mopeds do not need to have a license plate.

Thank you for understanding this and your future cooperation.

Just a reminder that it's homecoming week. The parade will be held this coming Friday. Lineup will begin at 1 PM. The parade will start at 1:30. The route will run from the entrance of the Parkston school at Chapman drive and Main Street, down Main Street to the west. To 4th street, where it will take a right turn and head north up to and across Glynn drive. We are asking all vehicles to be removed from Main Street at noon and we will begin barricading off intersections along the parade route at that time. Access to Main Street will be extremely limited in the area of the parade. Route during this time. Please do not park on Main Street or 4th street along the parade route. We will open the streets backup as soon as the parade is over. Thank you and go Trojans.

Please be vigilant in our area. Thanks
