We always say that the success of the Sour Mash Golf Tournament is directly tied to the strong community support we receive each year.

We are so thankful for the extreme generosity of our Title Sponsor for the 55th Annual Sour Mash Golf Tournament. The Deitzler Foundation has long been an ardent supporter and enthusiastic champion of the work we do at United Way. They have also long recognized the impact that the Bernard McDonough Foundation, our 2026 Honoree, has made across the region. Their sponsorship of our event is a fabulous combination of their recognition of meaningful philanthropy and passion for impactful work in our community.

Thank you to Harry and Kathe Deitzler for always seeing the opportunity to make a difference and continuing to invest in the people and organizations committed to making change.

There are a limited number of teams still available! Visit uwamov.com/sourmash to register a foursome!

This year we are proud to recognize the Bernard McDonough Foundation as the 55th Annual Sour Mash Golf Tournament Philanthropic Honoree.

The Bernard McDonough Foundation started with one goal in mind, to improve the life of those who live in West Virginia. Bernard P. McDonough, the Foundation's benefactor, was a remarkable man. A long time resident of the Mid-Ohio Valley region, he emerged from humble beginnings to build a great industrial empire.

More than $1.5 million is awarded every year to nonprofit organizations across the region. The impact of Mr. McDonough's philanthropy has changed the landscape of our communities. The transformational generosity will affect generations to come.

The Bernard McDonough Foundation has long been a supporter of our United Way, and they continue to partner with us both at our grant making capacity and in support of our own internal initiatives. They are a vibrant community partner for our organization and a fantastic selection to honor this year.

We are honored to serve those who have served our country. β€πŸ’™ Despite the sacrifices they have made, many veterans in our area face food insecurity and need some assistance from time to time to simply put food on the table.

Have you ever been driving down Market Street and spotted these fluorescent yellow vests? Have you ever wondered who they are or what they might be doing? πŸ€”

Downtown PKB met with community stakeholders in early 2018 to talk about the idea of engaging a core group of volunteers to assist with downtown cleanup projects in Parkersburg.

Through a series of conversations, the Downtown Ambassador Program, also known as DAP, was born. It is a vital volunteer-based initiative coordinated by United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley.

DAP utilizes volunteers from our community and local recovery facilities to help with facade and beautification of the downtown Parkersburg area. The use of recovery related volunteers has led to stigma reduction and greater positive visibility in our community.

Since the launch of this program, we have seen over 950 volunteers. They have collected more than 25,000 pounds of garbage and debris from Downtown Parkersburg and the surrounding area.
