Unusually hot and humid conditions will spread into the area this Thursday afternoon, and then persist through at least Saturday. Afternoon heat index values will reach 95 to 105 each afternoon, generally between 1 pm and 5 pm. Those spending time outdoors should wear light-colored clothing, drink plenty of water, and take periodic breaks.

Thunderstorms should develop in central SD late this afternoon and move east through the evening and overnight hours. The main threats will be hail to the size of golf balls and wind gusts to 70 mph. A very isolated tornado will also be possible during the evening.

The hot and humid conditions will continue with highs mainly in the 80s to 90s for the week. Otherwise, periodic shower and thunderstorm chances are expected with the focus being on Tuesday and Thursday. With a few stronger storms possible, make sure to have multiple ways to receive warning information.
