The relentless pursuit to challen
ge, communicate, create and connect learning. Legend High School is a comprehensive, technology-blended, college ready high school that relentlessly pursues every opportunity to challenge learning and make learning challenging, communicate and have students effectively communicate their learning, create learning that is relevant and rigorous and to connect learning to their lives and the industries they will enter after high school. We use Understanding by Design to develop core standard curriculum that has essential questions and big ideas to assess student learning proficiencies and measure their growth. Moodle and other technologies give students and teachers access to research and resources to create and communicate learning that prepares students for universities and daily lives in our ever changing society. AVID is a key ingredient at Legend to ensure all students are college ready and to target achievement gaps and work to increase student achievement and college skills. During the 2011-2012 school year, Legend will add its first senior class and have an enrollment of 1812 students. The Legend faculty and staff are well educated and qualified. Under the leadership of Principal Corey Wise, there are 114 staff members that work with Legend students and of those, 68 are certified teachers. One dean and 5 Assistant Principal/Student Advisors provide students with support service. Legend High School offers 21 Advanced Placement courses. Students in AP classes participate in rigorous curriculum preparing them for AP exams and potential college credit. Last year, we offered AP Geography to 107 freshmen and sophomores. One hundred percent took the AP test in hopes of receiving college credit and an amazing 85% percent of these students earned a score of 3, 4, or 5 to be able to earn college credit. Twenty five students scored a 5, 28 students scored a 4, and 38 scored a 3. Twelve out of thirteen freshmen scored a 3, 4, or 5; 6 freshmen scored a 5. The national average is 51%. This year we have 78 students in AP Geography, 107 students in AP Government, 26 students in AP Chemistry, 91 students in AP Physics, 107 students in AP Language and Composition, and 18 students in AP Calculus BC, for a total of 427 students in advanced placement courses. We have 807 students in honors classes and 480 students earning dual credit in any of our 24 ACC College Ready Courses, where students have the opportunity to earn both high school and college credit. Our Marching Band has 115 members and is the largest in DCSD. Our Choir programs total over 315 students and our Orchestra is 66 students strong. Legend is a fully comprehensive, College-Ready STEM High School.
