New assessment notices are scheduled to be mailed out next week. This is part of the revaluation process the City of Park Falls is required to undertake by the Department of Revenue. Over time, the values of property change based on a variety of economic forces. The assessor uses sales data on properties to create new assessments that keep the tax burden fair. If your property value increases less than average you may see a decrease, those properties that increased more than average may see an increase because of the revaluation. The revaluation provides an updated comparison as to how your property is valued to other properties. It is important to remember that a revaluation does not create new revenue for the taxing jurisdictions – it is a revenue neutral process. Property taxes for the City are only allowed to increase operational costs by the rate of the new construction each year, which historically has been less than one percent. Additional information will be included in your notice about the process.
