We are a group of skilled and united professionals looking to improve upon our work place through organizing and negotiating with the company we work for! We are a democratically governed labor organization dedicated to protecting the rights of our members. We represent, and are, the professional full time and part time ski patrollers at Park City Resort in Utah. Along with Crested But
te, Steamboat, Telluride, and Stevens Pass Professional Ski Patrols,we are united as The United Professional Ski Patrollers of America, Local 7781, CWA. In 1999, after years of empty promises, and being treated as a disposable resource, the then 30 patrollers began discussing and gathering information about unionizing. Since then, through the hard work of our fellow patrollers we elect to represent us, we have gone from one of the lowest paid patrols, with no benefits, to one of the highest paid, with arguably the best benefits package in the state of Utah. (We are always ready to compare notes. Our contracts are a matter of public record.) We also enjoy REAL job security, that the non-union patrols do not. We work in "Right to Work" states. Martin Luther King said "..It provides no 'rights', and no 'works'. It's purpose is to destroy labor unions and the freedom of collective bargaining..." To a non-union employee, this means they can be fired for any or no reason, whether they excel at their job and follow the rules, or not. From our first contract in 2000, we have had many difficult negotiations with management. These times can be tough and confrontational, but they are easily overcome if the members stand together as one, and continue to fight for their common good. That is how we made it to where we are now. In the summer of 2013 Vail Resorts announced that they will be running the Canyons resort for the next 50 years. We and Vail are both currently putting our best minds forward to make an operating agreement.
