Please be weather aware today!

4:40 am Update:

While a Level 3 severe weather threat remains in place for today, there now appears to be 2 periods of concern. One will be from mid morning through midday, then late afternoon through the evening. With the morning/midday storms, the main threats would be scattered wind damage and a few areas of flash flooding.

The extent of the afternoon and evening storms will depend on how fast the midday activity diminishes, but the timing of it still looks to be late afternoon through the evening. The morning storms will lay out an east-west boundary near or south of I-72, and the higher tornado risk will be south of there.

After the storms last Friday, some people may be feeling worries or fear for the next rounds of storms we may get this spring. That is ok and understandable!

Check out our website on storm anxiety, where you can find tips/tricks to overcome those fears.

We continue to focus on Monday as being our next significant severe weather threat, and the latest outlook from the Storm Prediction Center highlights a greater than 30% chance of severe weather across most of the state. All severe weather hazards appear in play. Continue to monitor this time frame as we get closer to early next week.

04/03/2026

Two rounds of thunderstorms are expected for central IL today and tonight. The first will be from around 2 to 7 pm as a warm front lifts through the area. This could produce a few tornadoes, mainly north of I-72, as well as damaging wind gusts over 60 mph, isolated large hail over 1 inch diameter, and locally heavy rainfall. The second round will sweep west to east over the area late tonight as a cold front crosses the area, and could produce damaging wind gusts over 60 mph, isolated large hail, and locally heavy rainfall.

04/02/2026

Severe thunderstorms are possible both today and Friday. Stay weather aware today and tomorrow, and be sure to have multiple ways to receive warnings.

03/15/2026

A line of severe storms is expected to develop along a strong cold front and move across central and southeastern IL from 3pm to 9pm today, with some morning storms possible. Hail is a concern in the morning and afternoon. Widespread wind damage and a few embedded tornadoes will be the main threat in the afternoon.
