June turned out to be a very busy month for the Health Department staff in reporting new COVID cases for the community. There were 140 new cases reported for the 4 reporting weeks in June. While the number of cases was high there continues to be few hospitalizations. The new patients also tend to have milder symptoms than those reported a few months ago. We did tragically have 1 reported COVID related death in the first week of June. Please as always keep this family in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with their loss. We are continually reminded of the potential danger to those most vulnerable in our community. Please continue to be cautious and use preventive measures to protect those that are most at risk. Please reach out to the Health Department for guidance on vaccinations and boosters and encourage others to do the same.

The Bourbon County Health Department experienced a busy month of May with COVID reporting activity. For the week ending 5/6 there were 13 new cases, week ending 5/13 it jumped to 32 cases, week ending 5/20 the total was back down to 19 and the final week ending Friday 5/27 there were 30 new cases reported in Bourbon County. During this same time period there were a total of 86 active case patients released from isolation and considered fully recovered. Sadly there was 1 COVID related death reported for Bourbon County during the month of May. Please keep this individual's family in your prayers as they deal with their loss and grief.

With current cases the trend is reported to be much milder symptoms in general and almost no hospitalizations. The tragic loss of life in May is of course an exception to that trend and it reminds us to continue to be cautious and protective for those in our community that are most vulnerable.

Over the last few weeks our Health Department staff has seen some fluctuation of the numbers of new COVID cases for Bourbon County. For the week ending Friday, 4/15, there were 5 new cases reported and 5 active case patients released from isolation and fully recovered. The following week, ending Friday, 4/22, saw an increase in the numbers with 14 new cases being reported to the staff. That week there were 10 active case patients released from isolation. For the week ending Friday 4/29, the number of new cases was back down to 8 new cases, with 6 active case patients released from isolation and considered fully recovered. The Health Department was also notified that week that there were 3 delayed notices of deaths from COVID complications for Bourbon County. These individuals had passed away several weeks earlier but were not identified as COVID related until last week. We can still keep these families in our prayers, we know they're still grieving and suffering from their loss.

Over the last couple of weeks the Health Department has continued to se low numbers for new COVID cases. For the week ending Friday April 1, there were 7 new cases, slightly up from the week before. 4 of these patients were males, ages 57-64. 3 were females, ages 28-52. During that week there were also 8 active case patients released from isolation and considered fully recovered. During that week we lost yet another Bourbon County citizen due to complications from COVID. Please keep this family in your prayers as they deal with their loss and grief.

The following week saw the numbers reported to the BCHD go down again. For the week ending Friday, 4/8, there were 3 new COVID cases reported. 1 male in his forties and 2 females, 1 in her sixties and 1 in her seventies. There were 4 active case patients released from isolation and considered fully recovered.

The Health Department is providing a 2nd booster for vaccinated individuals that are at least 50 years old and 4 months past their last shot, per the direction from the FDA and the CDC.

With the COVID case numbers staying low and the Health Department not reporting the totals as often I will only be periodically reporting summaries of our statistics for your information. Of course if things take a turn in the wrong direction we'll resume more regular updates as needed. Let's all be hopeful that the worst is behind us. Please continue to protect those that are most vulnerable to COVID, as we see some patients are still not able to recover, and keep yourself safe and healthy!

The Bourbon County Health Department saw the numbers of new COVID cases continue to decline last week, ending Friday 3/25. There were only 3 new cases reported. 1 male in his 50s and 2 females, 1 in her 40s and the other in her 60s. During the same week there were 7 active case patients released from isolation and considered fully recovered. That left the BCHD staff tracking 10 active cases. We are all encouraged by the continuing decline in new cases. Good work Bourbon County! Please continue to be safe and protect those most vulnerable to the virus.

The Bourbon County Health Department had another very encouraging week last week, ending Friday 3/18, regarding new COVID cases. During the week there were only 7 new COVID cases reported for Bourbon County. 4 of the patients were males, ranging in ages from 20 - 62. 3 were females, ranging in ages 34 - 64. During the same period there 18 active case patients released from isolation and considered fully recovered.

The really great news is that once again we didn't have any reported deaths from COVID in our community! As the cases continue to decline and anticipating the numbers stay low the BCHD is able to scale back on contract and temporary staff that has been in place off and on for 2 years now to report on and track COVID cases and assist COVID patients. That direction comes from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services in Frankfort, which is seeing the same decline across the state. Let's continue to do our part and stay safe and protective of those most vulnerable in our community.

For the week ending Friday 3/11 the staff received notice of only 24 new COVID cases for Bourbon County, down from 35 the previous week. Of the 24 new patients 7 were males, ranging in ages from 2 - 74. 27 were females, ranging in ages 4 - 75. During the same period 27 active case patients were released from isolation and considered fully recovered.
The new state map, modeled after the new CDC guidelines, has Bourbon County showing Green for the first time in a very long time! Very encouraging news for our county. We can can continue the news of improvement by being safe and protecting those we come in contact with!

03/08/2022

Of those 35 new patients 15 were males, ranging in ages from 1 - 85. 20 were females, ranging in ages 2 - 78. During the same period there were 72 active case patients released from isolation and considered fully recovered.

Great news was that no one was lost due to COVID during this past week! Good work Bourbon County! Please continue to stay safe!

03/01/2022

The Health Department staff saw another week of declining COVID cases for the week ending Friday, 2/25. During the week there were 57 new COVID cases for Bourbon County. During the same period there were 59 active case patients released from isolation and considered fully recovered.

We also had another week with tragic news as 2 Bourbon County patients passed away from COVID related complications. Please keep these two families in your prayers as they deal with their loss and grief.

Please continue to take simple precautions like frequently washing your hands, sanitizing often touched surfaces, wearing masks when appropriate, social distancing in the right circumstances, to keep yourself and your family and those you come in contact with safe and healthy.

02/22/2022

Another week of good news for declining numbers for new COVID cases for Bourbon County. For the week ending Friday, 2/18, the Health Department received notice of 66 new COVID patients, down from the previous week with 121. Of these 66 new patients 27 were males, ranging in age from 4 - 89. 39 were females, ranging in age from 6 months - 73. During the same week there were 104 active case patients released from isolation and considered fully recovered.

The very sad news once again was that last week we had 2 more Bourbon County citizens pass away from complications related to COVID. Please keep their families and friends in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with their loss and grief.

Please continue to be protective of yourself and all those you come in contact with. And please consider getting vaccinated if you haven't already. It's not too late to add that protection for yourself and for those in our community that are most vulnerable to COVID. Our BCHD staff continues to provide opportunities to be vaccinated, not only at the Health Department but at our schools and other venues around the community, striving to make it as convenient as possible for everyone.
