Our AZA accredited zoo actively participates in wildlife conservation endeavors through captive breeding programs and research projects and supports conservation efforts throughout the world. The zoo provides a unique and effective educational experience that fosters an appreciation for the interrelationships between the animals and their environments. It provides an enjoyable recreational experience for the residents and visitors of Bergen County.

Today we’re celebrating nature’s cleanup crew – vultures! 🪶

Vultures are highly misunderstood animals, but did you know they are crucial to the health of ecosystems? They efficiently dispose of carrion, preventing the spread of disease and contributing to a cleaner environment for both wildlife and humans.

The Bergen County Zoo has started the pre-planning for an updated Andean condor exhibit. This exciting renovation is designed to create an optimal environment to support the conservation of these magnificent birds.

Our resident male and female condor pair are already proven parents, having successfully raised offspring together in the past. Wild Andean condors face many threats and reproduce very slowly. Every new chick is vital for the future of the species.

While we are still very early in the early stages of planning this upgraded habitat, the Bergen County Zoo is proud to continue its mission of protecting vulnerable wildlife and supporting global conservation efforts.

You’ll have an opportunity to learn from our educators and ask questions this Saturday and Sunday at 1:00pm during our FREE vulture amphitheater themed shows! Happy International Vulture Awareness Day!

The Bergen County Zoo will be CLOSED on Tuesday, September 8th and Wednesday, September 9th for repaving work in the parking lot and public pathways.

Those who are registered for the Zoo Babies class on Tuesday and the Zoo Kids class on Wednesday will be accommodated through another entrance by Parking Lot 2.

There are still spots available for our Zoo Kids classes at the Bergen County Zoo! Children ages 4-6 years old get an opportunity to explore the world of animals through crafts, stories, animal meet-and-greets, and zoo tours! Each week offers a new topic, and you may sign up for as many classes as you like!

Snack time, then right back to work! Our prairie dogs fuel up on a variety of fresh produce every day before getting back to one of their most important tasks: maintaining their intricate burrow systems for the whole colony!

Look at our adorable ringed teal ducks splashing around the aviary pond! Ducks take baths by rapidly beating their wings and dunking their heads in the water, a natural behavior that helps wash away dirt and debris, keeping their beautiful plumage clean!
