Brent Baker for Sheriff

Brent Baker for Sheriff To contact me and my team, please email [email protected] I was born and raised in Parachute, and this county has always been my home.

As Sheriff of Garfield County, I will lead with Integrity, Transparency, and Accountability - because trust is earned, justice must be fair, and the law must apply equally to all. For 23 years, I’ve served Garfield County in law enforcement, and today I’m honored to lead as a Patrol Lieutenant with the Sheriff’s Office. But my proudest role is being a husband and father. My wife and I have been ma

rried for 18 years, and we’re raising our two children right here. I want them — and every child in Garfield County — to grow up in a community that is safe, fair, and full of opportunity. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and have proudly served our community off-duty as well — as a volunteer Firefighter/EMT, a Director on the Garfield County School District 16 School Board, a member of the Colorado River Valley Little League Board, and as a youth sports coach. These experiences have shown me that building a stronger community starts long before a crime is committed — it starts with strong families, engaged neighbors, and leaders who care. As Sheriff, I will lead with Integrity, Transparency, and Accountability — because trust is earned, justice must be fair, and the law must apply equally to all. This is my home, my family’s home, and I will work every day to keep it safe. As Sheriff, my priorities will be integrity, transparency, and accountability. I’ll keep our office fiscally responsible, improve communication through community meetings and social media, and create a traffic safety unit to address dangerous driving and keep our roads safe. Together, we can keep Garfield County safe, strong, and growing.

Good conversation starts with a seat at the table...or a spot at the grill! 🍔🌭
Our community thrives when we listen to each other. That’s why Tito Ruiz is hosting this special gathering for our Latino community to meet, talk face-to-face, and discuss how we can move forward together with confidence in our local law enforcement.
Check out the flyer below for all the info. We'll have burgers, hot dogs, and plenty of time for your questions.
Look forward to seeing you in Silt on June 13th!🇺🇲

There’s been a lot of discussion about Animal Control and the Mounted Patrol Unit, so let’s look at the facts.

This year, Garfield County provided $400,000 to our two animal shelters—money well spent. Bringing Animal Control back under the Sheriff’s Office would require approximately $850,000 for three deputies and the necessary equipment. I believe we need a long-term solution and am committed to exploring options, including whether a county-operated department could provide those services more efficiently.

Now, about the Mounted Patrol Unit. The Sheriff’s Office purchased a trailer for about $30,000. That’s it. The truck was donated by Road and Bridge. The tack and equipment are purchased with donated funds that are restricted to the Mounted Patrol Unit and cannot be spent elsewhere. The horses are owned, cared for, and maintained by the deputies themselves. And those deputies serve on Mounted Patrol in addition to their regular full-time duties.

The choice isn’t Mounted Patrol or Animal Control, we need both!

We can support valuable community programs while also having honest conversations about how to best provide essential services. My commitment is to find solutions that are practical, responsible, and in the best interest of Garfield County taxpayers.

I want to take a minute to clear up some misleading information that’s been shared about our upfitting vendor.
Yes, our upfitting costs have increased. Over the average lifespan of a patrol vehicle, that increase comes out to approximately $270.10 per year compared to what we were previously paying vendors on the Front Range.

So what does that investment get us?

Better service. Better products. Better quality. Faster response times and support when issues arise. And just as importantly, it KEEPS GARFIELD COUNTY TAX DOLLARS HERE IN GARFIELD COUNTY, supporting local businesses and our local economy.

It’s easy to throw out numbers without context, but context matters. This decision wasn’t made casually, and it certainly wasn’t made without evaluating the long-term value to our agency and our community.

The public deserves the full picture, not selective information designed to create criticism.

We want YOU to step on up!
We want YOU to fill the cup!
Wave those signs and hold them high,
Underneath the open sky!
Knock on doors and make the call,
We need hands to lift us all!
Who is ready? Who will stand?
Who will help us change the land?
Don't sit back, don't wait around,
Get your feet upon the ground!
Step on up, get involved,
That's how history gets solved!
