Advocating for Parachute in Washington, D.C.
(Washington, D.C.) -Town Manager Travis Elliott and Mayor Tom Rugaard recently completed a productive trip to Washington, D.C., to advocate for Parachute’s $6.4 million U.S. Department of Transportation BUILD Grant application.
If awarded, the grant will support improvements to 1st Street and advance the Town’s ongoing downtown revitalization efforts -an investment that will enhance infrastructure, safety, and long-term economic vitality.
The purpose of the visit was to elevate awareness of the project, strengthen relationships, and ensure federal decision-makers understand the importance of this investment for our community and the broader region.
During the trip, Travis Elliott and Mayor Rugaard held several meetings with key federal partners, including Katherine Kaye, Associate Director, White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, Representative Jeff Hurd and staff, staff from Senator Hickenlooper’s office, Senator Bennet’s offices, and a meeting with the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The response to Parachute’s application was overwhelmingly positive. Officials and staff expressed appreciation for the in-person outreach and demonstrated a genuine interest in learning more about Parachute and its regional role.
The Town extends its sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to meet and discuss this important project.
This trip marked a valuable step in advocating for Parachute’s future. Travis Elliott and Mayor Rugaard returned, encouraged by the level of support, and will continue working to advance the application in the months ahead.
