Sarpy County has retained the highest designation possible from Moody's Ratings, signaling the county's strong financial position as it invests in the next wave of road improvements.

Only 5% of counties nationwide hold a Aaa (Triple A) rating. The Aaa rating qualifies the county for the lowest possible interest rates when issuing bonds.

“Sarpy County is committed to making smart investments in infrastructure that support growth and align with our community’s high quality of life. This bond rating ensures we can make those investments with direct, long-term savings,” Sarpy County Board Chair Don Kelly said.

The Board of Commissioners in June authorized issuing a bond of up to $200 million for projects that modernize and expand the county's road network as Sarpy continues to usher in new development. The financing will support, among other projects, several roads that feed into the future I-80 interchange at 192nd Street, the 156th and Capehart Road Network, and the new South Sarpy Expressway. The expressway alone is a milestone project for the county that will provide a well-thought-out east-west corridor in the southern part of the Omaha metro area.

The county anticipates securing the guaranteed lowest possible interest rate for the $200 million bond later this month, thanks to Moody’s high marks. The low interest rate will save financing costs while supporting infrastructure that promotes strategic growth and expands the county’s tax base.

Moody’s referenced the county's growing residential incomes and commercial tax base, stable economic outlook and strong financial reserves in awarding the Aaa rating.

Sarpy County is among just 140 counties that have a Aaa rating out of 3,200 counties nationwide.

“We’re proud of our fiscal team’s work and that the county’s conservative approach to budgeting has been recognized by the highly respected experts at Moody’s,” Kelly said.
