πŸ“–πŸ‘‚οΈπŸ“Š A Year of Listening
The PLCS 2025-2031 Strategic Plan identifies six areas of focus for improving PLCS schools and serving our community. A dedicated team works within each area to identify solutions, develop interventions, and put ideas into action across the district. This year, PLCS asked families and staff to weigh in on each area through a series of short pulse surveys, generating more than 10,000 responses.

Find a snapshot of what the community told us and what each team is working on in the Spring 2026 issue of the PLCS Greatness Update magazine: plcschools.org/magazine.

🎨🍦 Art and - ice cream? Students at summer school are getting a whole week of art enrichment! Under instruction from PLCS art teachers Kurt Swanson and Gail Sherrell, students started the week planning a creative project to color, draw, and paint a stacked ice cream treat of their own ideation. In the first step, students came up with the flavors they want to feature and used crayons to plan out colors and patterns!

Thank you to Matt Carper, Project ADAM Coordinator for Children's Nebraska, for joining us at tonight's Board of Education meeting to honor the incredible PLCS nurses who made it happen.

πŸ“šοΈπŸŒ± In conjunction with their summer reading program in June, "Plant a Seed: Read!" the Papillion Public Library led a fun planting activity with PLCS summer school students! Students each decorated an egg, which became a container for their own "chia pet." The chia seeds they planted in the egg will grow to be like hair for their little characters. Be sure to check out the summer reading program this month - kids receive a free book to keep just for signing up!

πŸ“–πŸŒŸ Built for the LEAP!
Every student in PLCS will face a handful of moments that feel bigger than the rest. The first day of kindergarten. The move to middle school. The transition to high school. These are the moments that stretch students in new directions and remind families just how quickly things change.

The shift to middle school is one of the biggest, and in Papillion La Vista Community Schools, these transitions are not left to chance. Long before the first bell rings in August, middle school staff is already preparing for incoming students. Counselors are reviewing transition information from elementary buildings. Teachers are planning routines so students feel grounded from the start. Orientation events are designed to help students walk in on day one with at least one familiar face and a sense of belonging.

In the full article, every middle school counselor provides tips on starting this new phase. Read more in the Spring 2026 issue of the PLCS Greatness Update: plcschools.org/magazine.

πŸ“– The PLCS Empowerment Collective provides diverse resources throughout the year that are specifically crafter for your family's needs. The collective exists to empower students, staff, and families with actionable strategies and information on key topics, fostering a collaborative learning environment where together we learn and grow.

In its second year, its programming tackled the topics PLCS families said they needed: anxiety, depression, school safety, va**ng, ADHD, bullying, body image, homework, emotional regulation, grief, divorce, and more. Every event and episode was designed to meet families where they are, whether that meant a Wednesday afternoon resource fair at the PLCS Central Office, a lunchtime Zoom session, or a 15-minute podcast episode on the morning commute.

Statistics on the 2025-26 Empowerment Collective resources and dates for the 2026-27 school year are presented in the Spring 2026 issue of the PLCS Greatness Update magazine: plcschools.org/magazine.
