Ms. Pitzer's 4th Grade class learned about the attacks of 9/11 today and made a poster commemorating the 25th anniversary of the attacks. They listened to the children's book America is Under Attack by Don Brown.

It’s been a great start to the school year, and we are so excited about all the learning, growing, and fun happening at Sunflower! 💙💛

🩵📚Happy Labor Day Monday!!

Read a thon has been going amazing! We are so impressed with all the reading these kids have been doing and all the support and encouragement that’s been given by the parents, teachers and schools! It’s incredible!

🍩Last weeks challenge was the class in each grade with the most percentage of students registered for read a thon get DONUTS from Daylight Donuts of Paola. And wow you guys did amazing! Over half of all our students are signed up— currently at 356 out of 678 kids!! We will be delivering the donuts later this week to these winners….🥁

Kindergarten— Mrs Haddock 16/20
First grade— Mrs Smith 15/19
Second grade— Mrs Glenn 16/21
Third grade— Mrs McDonnell (Wellman) 16/22
Fourth grade— Mrs Pitzer 18/22

Our next challenge is pretty wacky 🤪

We want to see how silly you can get while reading because READING IS FUN!!! So send us a picture of your student reading in a wacky way (with a stuffy, animal, in a crazy spot, in a crazy way— BE CREATIVE!)

Our Read A Thon committee will choose ten students from each school to win a prize from the PTO treasure box! 🪎 It’s stocked with all sorts of amazing prizes! So send the pictures in either by posting on this thread below in the comments, sending us a message via Facebook messenger or an email at [email protected]

Cottonwood and Sunflower reading teachers came together to share valuable information with families about Title I Reading at our annual parent meeting. We’re grateful for the partnership between home and school as we work together to help every student grow into a confident, successful reader! 💛📖

🩵📚⭐️ It's time for the Sunflower Cottonwood PTO Read-A-Thon!

Our school Read-A-Thon begins on Tuesday September 1, 2026 and lasts all month long!

We understand that your time is valuable. We also know that providing the best education for your child is important. That's why we are encouraging everyone to activate their student's Read-A-Thon account as soon as possible. The instructions are straightforward, making it quick and hassle-free, and it should take less than 5 minutes of your time.
We have also started to send home instructions on how to activate your reader's personal page. This account page is where parents and teachers will be able to view and record students progress by adding minutes read. Use the link below to activate your student's Reader account:

During STEM, all students at Sunflower had the opportunity to sample delicious produce from our school garden, along with other tasty treats grown in our community gardens.
The cantaloupe from our school garden was the clear favorite, with cucumbers coming in a close second!
Most students had never heard of an Armenian cucumber. They loved its crunch.
Okra was the least familiar of all the vegetables.
