At around 8 o’clock this evening, our firefighters were dispatched on a call for downed power lines.

Shown in the video is a downed power line that is actively putting electrical currents into nearby water puddles.

Educational opportunity:
This is a reminder to ALL citizens. If you see a downed power line or anything that could potentially indicate a hazard, remain a safe distance and call 911 immediately!

Reminder: Water is conductive. Electricity can travel through water and is just as dangerous.

First responders:
Remember to keep constant situational awareness. As you can see in the video, utilize all tools to determine safety for you and your crew! And watch out for potential standing water!

Training Alert!

Pantego Fire Department was thrilled to invite Arlington FD to participate in a special training on one of our most popular locations!

CAMP THURMAN is a 14 acre Christian day camp which features a “in the middle of the woods” environment with a vast array of fun activities!

This facility features many different obstacles that could be considered challenging without a regimented training and incident action plan.

These challenges include (but are not limited to):

🪢High Angle Rescue

🛶Aquatic and flood related emergencies

🌲Dense, wooded, off-road terrain

👣And a high traffic destination!

We are proud to serve our citizens of Pantego and we are proud to serve alongside our brothers at Arlington FD. We look forward to training alongside Arlington AFD and surrounding agencies again in the future!

STAY WEATHER AWARE!

A tornado watch has been issued for much of North Texas and is valid through 9 PM tonight. While a couple tornadoes are possible, the primary hazard will be very large hail up to the size of softballs. Please be weather aware this evening and have multiple ways to receive warnings should a severe storm move into your area!

Preparedness:

-Have a shelter in place plan!(Find a sturdy structure, preferably on the first floor in the most central part of the building with no windows.)

-Grab a first aid kit, extra water, portable charger, close toed shoes and a flashlight.

-In the case of a tornado warning, grab pillows and blankets and cover your head and neck with them. Mattresses can also help shield you from falling debris.

STAY SAFE!
