Great information shared by the Nebraska Stroke Association. This is one tool that we use on the ambulance to identify stroke symptoms quickly. If you suspect you or a loved one is having a stroke, call 911 immediately. Minutes count!

❌ MYTH.

While the risk of stroke increases with age, a stroke can happen at any age.

That is why everyone — not just older adults — should know the warning signs and to call 911 when a stroke is suspected.

This month's medical training covered cardiac emergencies, best practices when performing a 12 Lead ECG, and proper use of the LUCAS device to provide high quality CPR. A huge thank you to John Knute for the excellent hands on training!

A 12 lead electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is a quick medical test that records the electrical signals of your heart.

The Lund University Cardiopulmonary Assist System (LUCAS) device provides mechanical chest compressions to patients in cardiac arrest. It can be used as an alternative to manual cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) because it provides consistent compressions at a fixed rate through difficult transport conditions.

Our Norris Titans will be returning to school this week, so we want to remind everyone to practice bus safety.

🚍 Flashing yellow lights mean the bus is preparing to stop, and drivers should slow down and prepare to stop.
🚍 Stop immediately when a school bus activates its red flashing lights and extends its stop sign.
🚍 Remain stopped until the red lights stop flashing and the stop sign is retracted.
🚍 Stop even if you are driving on the opposite side of the road, unless specific exceptions apply.

We are nearing high school football season, so this month's EMS training was at Norris High School. We work hand in hand with the athletic trainer at the school to practice different scenarios that we may run into during a game. A big thank you to Chance for taking an evening to train the team.
