SCAM ALERT — POLICE OFFICER IMPERSONATION

The Panama City Police Department (PCPD) is warning residents about a scam involving phone calls from someone impersonating a Panama City Police officer.

The scammer has been reported to call from (850) 378-2263 and may request money, personal information, or payment to resolve an alleged legal matter.

Scammers may use other phone numbers, so a different number does not mean the call is legitimate.

If you receive a suspicious call, do not call the number back or provide any money or personal information. Hang up and verify the call directly with the PCPD at (850) 872-3100. Only use this official number to verify whether the call is legitimate.

On Thursday, August 27, 2026, at about 5:15 pm, Panama City Police Officers responded to the Bay City Point shopping complex in reference to a suspicious person. The victim reported that a male attempted to enter her vehicle as she was preparing to drive to another store. She drove away from him, parking in another area of the parking lot, and as she started to get out of her vehicle, she saw the same man riding a bicycle towards her. Out of concern, she got into her vehicle, locked the doors and left the area while calling the police.

Detectives investigated the incident through the weekend, following up on possible leads. On Monday, August 31, 2026, the subject was identified as 34-year-old Danial Brooks. Brooks was located the same morning and taken into custody without incident. Brooks was charged with Stalking, Attempted Burglary of a Conveyance, and Violation of Probation. He was transported to the Bay County Jail pending First Appearance.

On August 25, 2026, officers responded to a local restaurant regarding the grand theft of property. Officers investigated and identified the suspect as Robert Michael Johnson who resides in the 1300 block of Fountain Ave.

Officers obtained a search warrant and arrest warrant and made telephone contact with Johnson, who refused to surrender voluntarily. Due to the circumstances and the potential risk involved, the department’s SWAT and Crisis Negotiations teams responded to the scene.

Following lengthy negotiations, Johnson surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. Johnson was arrested and charged with grand theft and resisting officers without violence.

On August 4, 2026, officers with the Panama City Police Department responded to the 4600 block of Lindsey Crossing following reports of a physical altercation.

After securing the scene, an investigation determined that during the altercation, both individuals armed themselves with fixed-blade weapons and engaged in a physical fight. Both men sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were treated for their injuries.

At the conclusion of the investigation, James Gay, 35, and Everette Krichbabum, 52, were each charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon.

Sergeant Allyn and Corporal Jones represented the Panama City Police Department at the annual Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Law Enforcement Recognition ceremony in Fort Myers.

They attended on behalf of our agency in recognition of the department’s DUI enforcement efforts in 2025. We are proud of their dedication and the work of all our officers who help keep our roadways and community safe.
