“Why don’t they just leave?”

It’s a question many people ask, but the reality is often far more complicated.

Survivors may face fear, financial dependence, concern for their children, lack of safe housing, threats from their abuser, isolation from support systems, or hope that the abuse will stop.

In fact, leaving can be one of the most dangerous times in an abusive relationship.

Instead of asking, “Why didn’t they leave?” try asking, “What barriers were standing in their way?” and “How can we support them?”

Understanding creates compassion. Compassion creates change.

If you or someone you know is experiencing stalking, know that support is available and you do not have to face it alone Tralee Crisis Center is here to help.

Who’s ready for some Monday Magic!?🦋✨
Sometimes support starts with simply showing up and being part of the community.

This weekend, Tralee Crisis Center had a great time attending the Cow Calling Contest in Miami, Texas! We enjoyed connecting with community members, sharing resources, and celebrating a hometown tradition together.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to visit with us. We are grateful for opportunities like these to build relationships and remind our neighbors that support, advocacy, and hope are always available.

Financial abuse is one of the most common, yet least recognized, forms of abuse.

It happens when someone uses money, finances, or access to resources as a way to gain power and control over another person. This can include preventing someone from working, controlling their spending, taking their money, monitoring purchases, forcing debt in their name, or restricting access to bank accounts and financial information.

Financial abuse can leave survivors feeling trapped and dependent, making it harder to leave an unhealthy or abusive situation.

Everyone deserves financial independence, dignity, and the freedom to make decisions about their own future.

If you or someone you know needs support, Tralee Crisis Center is here to help.

Elder abuse is far more common than many people realize, yet it often goes unrecognized and unreported.

Abuse can take many forms, including physical abuse, emotional abuse, s*xual abuse, financial exploitation, neglect, abandonment, and medication misuse. By learning the warning signs, we can better protect the older adults in our families, neighborhoods, and communities.

Raising awareness is important, but so is knowing that help is available. No one deserves to experience abuse at any age. Support, resources, and advocacy are available for older adults who may be experiencing abuse or neglect.

Together, we can help ensure every older adult is treated with the dignity, respect, and care they deserve. 💜

Fight. Flight. Freeze. Fawn.

These aren’t personality flaws. They’re survival responses.

When someone experiences trauma, the brain and body do whatever they can to stay safe, even long after the danger has passed. Some people fight back. Some run. Some shut down. Some people please others to avoid harm.

Every response is valid. Every survivor deserves compassion, not judgment.

At Tralee Crisis Center, we believe healing starts with understanding.🦋💜

Trauma doesn’t just affect emotions. It can physically change the way the brain responds to stress, fear, safety, and connection.

Survivors may feel constantly on alert, overwhelmed, disconnected, or emotionally exhausted, not because they are “broken,” but because their brain has been trying to survive.

Healing is possible with safety, support, and time. 💜

A room full of generosity, compassion, and community support. 💜

This year, Altrusa International of Pampa, Texas, Inc. blessed Tralee Crisis Center in an incredible way by donating more than 500 books for survivors and their children, helping create comfort, healing, learning, and hope through every page. They generously also made a monetary donation as well as purchased much needed items from our Amazon wish list to help support the families we serve every day.

We were also honored to have our Executive Director, Penny Harvey, speak at their yearly conference and share more about the mission and impact of Tralee Crisis Center throughout our community.

Support like this reminds survivors they are not alone. Thank you, Altrusa, for continuing to show up with servant hearts and making a lasting difference in the lives of so many📚🦋
