🇺🇸 25 YEARS LATER — WE REMEMBER.
Twenty-five years ago today, our nation experienced a tragedy that forever changed America. We remember the lives lost, the families whose lives were forever changed, and the extraordinary courage of the first responders who ran toward danger when others were running away.
This morning, members of the Pampa Fire Department, Pampa Police Department and other agencies gathered at the high school football stadium for a special remembrance of September 11, 2001.
The remembrance opened with prayer and first responders observed a longstanding fire service tradition — ringing the bell in three sets of five — a solemn signal honoring firefighters who have answered their final call.
Then, at 8:46 a.m. — the exact time the first tower of the World Trade Center was struck 25 years ago — the memorial march began.
Together, members of Pampa Fire and Pampa Police began making their way up the stadium bleachers.
411 steps.
One step for each first responder who lost their life as a result of the attacks that day.
With every step, they honored the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel and other first responders who answered the call on one of the darkest days in our nation’s history.
For those of us who remember September 11, 2001, the images, the uncertainty, the heartbreak and the incredible unity that followed remain with us. For a generation born after that day, it is now our responsibility to make sure the stories of courage, service and sacrifice continue to be told.
Today, our first responders walked for those who no longer can.
For their courage.
For their sacrifice.
For their families.
And for a promise made 25 years ago that still stands today:
