Village of Palos Park

Village of Palos Park The ideal unique & active community in the Southwest suburbs of Chicago. A good balance of business, community events, great trails & outdoor recreation.

The Village of Palos Park is a charming, bedroom community nestled in
the midst of dense wooded land. A wonderful place to live and raise a family
in a natural environment. We love this town for its profound natural features,
where hills, creeks, and ravines abound. Large, aged oak trees line our streets
and properties. Our one-acre zoning in residential areas has been vital in
maintaining th

ese natural assets, and the community members actively
work to maintain our “pastoral setting, rural splendor.”

INFORMATION FROM ComEd

Public safety is paramount during storms and ComEd encourages the public to remember to take the following precautions:

Anyone encountering a downed power line is urged to immediately call ComEd at 1-800-EDISON1 (1-800-334-7661) and report the location. Spanish-speaking customers should call 1-800-95-LUCES (1-800-955-8237).

Never approach a downed power line. Always presume a power line is energized and extremely dangerous.

Check on elderly and other sensitive family members and neighbors to ensure their safety and make alternate arrangements, as it may be some time before their power is restored.

ComEd also offers the following suggestions for customers experiencing a prolonged outage:

*Turn off all appliances including your furnace, water heater, and water pump.
*Leave a lamp on so you can know when power has been restored.
*Keep freezer and refrigerator doors closed and open them only when necessary. Food can stay frozen for 36 to 48 hours in a fully loaded freezer, if the door remains closed. A half-full freezer can generally keep food frozen for 24 hours.

Customers who are on medical support equipment are strongly encouraged to evacuate to a place where they can be comfortable and safe.

Priorities For Storm Restoration:
*Through switching and repair of high voltage transmission lines and substations, we restore service to the largest number of customers.

*We restore power to facilities critical to public health and safety including hospitals, police and fire stations, water reclamation plants, and communication systems.

*We dispatch crews to make repairs to equipment that will return service to the largest number of customers in the least amount of time. These include major feeder trunk lines, high-density housing projects, and large neighborhoods.

*Finally, we restore power to smaller neighborhoods and individual services.

NEW: Receive Outage Alerts on Your Mobile Phone:
ComEd has instituted a two-way text messaging capability that allows customers to text their outage to ComEd and enables ComEd to text restoration information back to customers.

The expanded outage alert text message program will provide added convenience for customers and help improve their experience. The new program enhancements:

*Allow customers to text the company to report an outage,
*Offer real-time information on outages, and
*Allow customers to text ComEd to opt into the program.

To report an outage, customers can text OUT to 26633 (COMED)

⚠️ WEATHER ALERT ⚠️
The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch (until 9:00pm) and a Flood Watch (until 11:00pm) for our area.

Residents are encouraged to remain weather aware throughout the day and evening. Please monitor local weather forecasts, have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts, and be prepared to seek shelter quickly if a warning is issued.

Heavy rainfall may lead to localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas and locations with poor drainage. Never drive through flooded roadways—Turn Around, Don't Drown.

Village staff, Police, and Public Works personnel will continue to monitor conditions and respond as necessary.

Please stay safe, check on neighbors who may need assistance, and report any emergencies by calling 911.

Palos Park Police & Palos Fire Protection District announce joint "commUnity" Night initiative.

Police Commissioner Polk said, “We are very excited to announce our joint commUnity Night initiative. The “U” in commUnity is capitalized because this program is for YOU, while also strengthening the unity between the community and those who have the privilege of serving you.”

This initiative will begin in July and run through the end of the year. Each month, the same program information will be offered on two separate Tuesday evenings. If a topic interests you, you will have two opportunities to stop by and interact with members of the Police and Fire Departments.

Palos Park Deputy Chief Chris Hughes defined the programs as “a casual information opportunity for the public and their public servants to meet members of the Palos Park Police and Palos Fire District while learning about a variety of public safety topics.”

Palos Fire Battalion Chief Aaron Rutter noted, “Palos Fire staff is excited to work with PPPD staff and kick off this informative community outreach program this July.”

The first sessions will be held on July 7th and July 14th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Kaptur Administrative Center (Palos Park Village Hall). The first evening will include a meet-and-greet, an overview of the program, and a question-and-answer session.

Questions can be submitted to:
Police – Deputy Chief Chris Hughes ([email protected])
Fire – Battalion Chief Aaron Rutter ([email protected])
