Meet Our Panelist: Judge Bernadette Barrett
Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County

A 40-year resident of the South Suburbs, Judge Bernadette Barrett has dedicated much of her career to serving and giving back to our community.

Her commitment to public service includes serving as former President of the Southwest Bar Association, providing pro bono legal services to victims of domestic abuse, volunteering on the Board of Trustees at Moraine Valley Community College, and, of course, being a dedicated hockey mom.

Judge Barrett earned her Juris Doctor from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and her B.S. in Economics and Political Science from DePaul University. A proud graduate of Shepard High School, her roots in the South Suburbs run deep.

We’re excited to have Judge Barrett join us and share her experience, perspective, and commitment to our community!

Great news for the Village of Palos Park and the safety of our residents.

Palos Park Police Department Awarded another Illinois Department of Transportation Traffic Enforcement Grant

Palos Park Police Commissioner Dan Polk is pleased to announce the Palos Park Police Department has been awarded another Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program grant. Funded by federal highway safety dollars through the Illinois Department of Transportation, the grant will support increased traffic safety enforcement efforts aimed at saving lives and reducing crashes.

Commissioner Polk noted, “We are grateful for this grant, which allows us to continue to build on our traffic safety initiatives through a combination of education and enforcement efforts, our goal is to reduce dangerous driving behaviors, prevent crashes, and make our roadways safe”

The funds from the Illinois Department of Transportation allow the department to pay officers to work traffic enforcement outside their regular duties, with officers typically working a four-six-eight-hour shifts during which they set up in hot spots and their only job during those shifts is to enforce traffic laws in parts of the city that see the most dangerous driving,

Unlike when they work their regular shifts, with the IDOT programs officers aren’t paid from the same fund as when they’re performing their normal duties. The money for those shifts comes from grant Traffic Grant funding .

Enforcement of the traffic laws put into place to improve the safety of all roadway users on Illinois roadways is critical to eliminate traffic related fatalities and serious injuries. IDOT provides grants and works with its law enforcement safety stakeholders to ensure efforts are focused on priority emphasis areas and locations to have the greatest impact on safety

Palos Park Sergeant Ross Chibe has managed these traffic grant programs the past four years.

Remembering September 11

On September 11, 2026, at 9:11 AM, the Village of Palos Park will come together for a moment of silence to honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Village staff, members of the Palos Park Police Department, and members of the Palos Park Fire District will gather outside Village Hall to pause, reflect, and pay tribute to the victims, their families, and all those whose lives were forever changed that day. Residents are invited to join us in this moment of silence at the Village Hall or on your own at 9:11 AM.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Hey, Palos Park, drive sober and slower this Labor Day!
Palos Park Police encourage all motorist to celebrate responsibly this holiday weekend amidst the national enforcement crackdown on impaired driving that runs through September 7.

Labor Day should end with cookouts and family, not handcuffs and court dates. Yet every year, someone decides that “I’m fine to drive” is a solid plan. Spoiler: it’s not.

PPPD Officers STEP it UP and will be out as part of the PPPD Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) focusing on impaired drivers. If you drink, don’t drive. Call a friend, grab a rideshare, or plan ahead because nothing ruins a holiday faster than a DWI arrest and a tow bill.
