After making significant progress throughout the day, our community experienced a second round of storms last night that resulted in additional fallen tree limbs and debris across the City. Fortunately, no new widespread power outages were reported.

We are pleased to report that power has now been restored to more than 85% of Palos Heights residents and businesses. This is a tremendous accomplishment considering that approximately 95% of the community lost power following the initial storm.

We again would like to extend our sincere thanks to the dedicated men and women of ComEd who have been working around the clock to safely restore power throughout Palos Heights and the surrounding communities. We would also like to pass along big thank you to our small Public Works department, who responded quickly to the second storm by clearing roadways and addressing fallen branches after working long hours the day before.

Cleanup efforts will continue in the coming days, and residents can expect enhanced chipper services over the next two weeks to assist with storm debris removal.

As always, please check on elderly family members, neighbors, and friends who may still be without power, internet access, or reliable communication. A simple phone call or visit can help ensure they are safe and aware of available resources and recovery information.

Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and support as we continue the cleanup of our community from the storm.

BEWARE OF STORM RECOVERY SCAMS

As our community continues to recover from the recent storm, residents are urged to be cautious of individuals and companies seeking to take advantage of storm-related damage.

Unfortunately, severe weather events often attract scammers who may go door-to-door offering tree removal, roofing, home repairs, or other cleanup services. Some may request large upfront payments, pressure homeowners into making immediate decisions, or claim to be working on behalf of insurance companies.

To protect yourself:
Call the Building Department to verity that contractors are properly registered and insured.
Obtain written estimates from multiple companies.
Never feel pressured to sign a contract on the spot.
Be wary of requests for large upfront payments.
Contact your insurance provider before authorizing major repairs.
Ask for references and verify company information.

If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Please also check on elderly family members, friends, and neighbors who may still be without power or internet access. A quick phone call or visit can help ensure they are aware of available resources, recovery updates, and potential scams targeting vulnerable residents.

The City encourages residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to local law enforcement. By looking out for one another, we can help our community recover safely and securely.

Stay safe, Palos Heights.

Last night’s severe weather had a significant impact on our community, with approximately 95% of households experiencing power outages. At this time, roughly 50% of the City remains without power.

City staff are actively working with ComEd to restore power to critical facilities and affected areas as quickly as possible. We appreciate the ongoing efforts of utility crews and first responders throughout this recovery process.

The storm also resulted in a substantial number of fallen trees and large limbs across the City. Public Works crews have been working around the clock and have cleared most streets to a passable condition.

To assist residents with storm debris, the City will be doubling chipper services over the next two weeks.

We understand the challenges these outages and cleanup efforts have created, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation as recovery work continues. Please continue to use caution around downed power lines and report any emergencies immediately.
Thank you for your patience as we work together to restore normal operations.
