BEWARE OF STORM RECOVERY SCAMS
As our community continues to recover from the recent storm, residents are urged to be cautious of individuals and companies seeking to take advantage of storm-related damage.
Unfortunately, severe weather events often attract scammers who may go door-to-door offering tree removal, roofing, home repairs, or other cleanup services. Some may request large upfront payments, pressure homeowners into making immediate decisions, or claim to be working on behalf of insurance companies.
To protect yourself:
Call the Building Department to verity that contractors are properly registered and insured.
Obtain written estimates from multiple companies.
Never feel pressured to sign a contract on the spot.
Be wary of requests for large upfront payments.
Contact your insurance provider before authorizing major repairs.
Ask for references and verify company information.
If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Please also check on elderly family members, friends, and neighbors who may still be without power or internet access. A quick phone call or visit can help ensure they are aware of available resources, recovery updates, and potential scams targeting vulnerable residents.
The City encourages residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to local law enforcement. By looking out for one another, we can help our community recover safely and securely.
Stay safe, Palos Heights.
