Please join in welcoming 10 new probationary firefighters to the Palo Alto Fire Department! 20+ week academy, 3 separate agencies, countless hours, diverse backgrounds/experiences/personalities, all came together for this academy. Today marks the end of being a firefighter recruit, and the beginning to being a probationary firefighter. The beginning of starting your dream career is finally here! The men and women of the Palo Alto Fire Department and the members of Local 1319 welcome you with open arms. We look forward to getting to know you all!

Station 2 crew had a special visit from our community members from the Sunrise senior living center on the 4th of July 🇺🇸 To the members of Sunrise, thank you. We take great pride in serving those in our community everyday with compassion, and pride. Thank you for your visit, and delicious bagels🥯

Palo Alto Professional Firefighters would like to congratulate Captain Charles “Chuck” Ferry on his retirement last week. Badge number 409, hired in October of 1999, Chuck cut his teeth working as a paramedic on an ambulance in San Jose before joining PAFD. Rumor has it that his p-card number is in the low 300s. A former member of the National Guard, Captain Ferry made a name for himself throughout his time with us as an incredibly passionate firefighter and a natural born teacher. A preceptor to many paramedic interns over the years, Chuck was a verifiable black cloud, and was present for many a unique EMS call over the years. Outside of PAFD, Chuck is known far and wide throughout the fire service for his prowess and passion for forcible entry, which he so aptly named his company ( ), which provides forcible entry products and training to organizations throughout the nation. A solid family man who brought his family values to his every interaction at work, Captain Ferry was a great member of this department, and he will long be remembered, and missed. Thank you for all that you did for us, Chuck.

Congratulations to Captain Marcus Arana, who retires today after 22 years of dedicated service to the City of Palo Alto. Captain Arana joined the Palo Alto Fire Department in 2000, after nine years with the Carmel Valley Fire Department. Captain Arana has been a paramedic for a whopping 24 years. He promoted to Captain in 2016 and his favorite saying is “it’s all good”. Yes indeed Captain, it is all good! Enjoy your well deserved retirement!

We’re proud to have been able to participate in Tesla Owners of Silicon Valley’s inaugural holiday toy drive! The club of local Tesla enthusiasts generously donated over $5,000 worth of toys to children in need this holiday season! It was a pleasure to working alongside our Palo Alto Police Department partners to support this awesome cause. Thank you for inviting us in to this incredible event!

You’ve all chosen a noble profession, and it is our privilege to help encourage and support you as you use your passion for service to protect the Palo Alto community. Last week, three of your Palo Alto Professional Firefighters attended a 40-hour Confined Space Rescue Technician course, hosted by , at South City Fire Department. Attending on their own time, these three members are passionate about improving their skill sets and better serving the Palo Alto public. As an all-risk fire department, we function as the rescue team for the City’s Utilities Department, Public Works, and anyone that is performing work in a confined space within our city. South San Francisco Fire Department’s site is accredited as an OSHA compliant site for these types of trainings, and we’re grateful that our members were able to attend this valuable and very necessary training.

Station 5 crew decided to do Thanksgiving a day early this year! A beautiful spread (and decorations) were enjoyed by all - so much to be grateful for this year!
