This summer, our middle school chefs are learning that cooking is about much more than following a recipe!

Led by Resident Services Coordinator Gianna, our hands-on cooking program teaches valuable life skills every step of the way. Before they even turn on the stove, students learn how to plan a meal, create a budget, shop for ingredients, practice food safety, and become familiar with essential kitchen tools.

Then comes the fun part—preparing, tasting, and sharing delicious meals together!

By combining nutrition, budgeting, teamwork, and cooking skills, we're helping young people build confidence they'll carry with them long after summer ends.

At Alta Housing, we believe affordable housing is more than a place to live—it's a place where people can learn, grow, and thrive.

Everyone has gifts.

When Beatriz, a resident services manager, heard beautiful piano music coming from the community room at Sheridan Apartments, she found resident Steve Arntson at the keyboard.

As she listened, she was reminded that every person has unique talents and stories worth sharing. That chance encounter inspired "Music & Memories," a special piano recital featuring Steve for Sheridan residents on Thursday, July 9.

One of the best parts of her job as Resident Services Manager is discovering the incredible gifts our residents share—and creating opportunities for our community to enjoy them together.

This summer, our Alta Future Leaders Internship is giving students the opportunity to explore college, careers, and leadership while discovering their own strengths. Through campus visits, resume building, interview practice, community service, and hands-on experience, they're gaining the confidence and skills to begin planning for their future.

We believe every young person deserves the opportunity to dream big—and the tools to turn those dreams into reality.

Silicon Valley is home to some of the greatest wealth in the world — and some of the most visible housing insecurity in the nation.

Alta Housing team members Frank and Elvira recently showed up for our unhoused neighbors at a resource fair organized by the City of Palo Alto — with a table full of housing resources, information, and goodie bags to send people off with a little extra.

Affordable housing is a foundation. And until everyone has it, Alta will continue to show up.

Our Kids in Action summer program is bringing hands-on learning, creativity, and fun directly to Alta communities! 😎☀️

Instead of hosting the program in just one location, we're rotating it among our communities so more families can participate close to home. Each week features a new theme with STEM projects, creative activities, outdoor games, team-building, and plenty of opportunities for kids to make new friends while continuing to learn all summer long!

We'll wrap up the season with a special field trip to the Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo, where participants will explore interactive science exhibits and discover the natural world. 🦍🌳

Alta residents did this exact exercise at our Healthy Homes, Healthy Living Workshop — and were surprised by what they found!

⚡Cords bundled on the floor — a fire and trip hazard
📦 Bins stacked to the ceiling — unstable and risky if they tip
🚪 Blocked pathways — limiting safe access in and out of the room
🪟 Storage crowding the window — affecting ventilation and emergency exit access

At Alta Housing's Healthy Homes, Healthy Living Workshop, residents sharpened their eye for home safety — and walked away with the knowledge (and cleaning kits!) to make real changes at home. 🧹💚
